Well she’s shite at the job so she’s better off going. The fat guy was better at it.

    2. Was it ever gotten to the bottom of about the legal advice she claimed to have gotten back in January that she claimed allowed for the original government proposal to go ahead?

Shit hit the fan the first time and suddenly she got brand new legal advice that contradicted her earlier claim.

Did that earlier advice really even exist?  Has that ever been established?

That was all happening when the government thought they could get this done without too much fuss.

In the CC’s statement this evening she denys in very strong terms any form of collusion between herself and government regarding this whole matter.

It strikes me that getting to the bottom of what was going on with that first piece of legal advice would probably be fairly indicative one way or the other.

      >While there is a hope within government that the speaking rights row will dissipate and the public will become tiresome of the issue, there is no sign of it, as the opposition continue to hammer the government with the simple message: that you can’t be in opposition and government at the same time.

I mean what are they saying here that is wrong. How can they claim to support the Government but take up opposition speaking time.

The Ceann Comhairle is meant to be impartial and agreed on by everyone in the Dail. If the opposition dont have faith in their ability to be impartial then she should resign and allow someone everyone agrees on to take her place.

This has nothing to do with misogyny, Frankly for the Ceann Comhairle to even suggest that is an embarrassment. Is she trying to claim Mary Lou, Ivana Bacik and Holly Cairns are supporting the motion cos of misogyny.

The Chair needs to step down and allow the Government to get some work done instead of wasting time on this.

Just get rid of her and move on to governing the bloody country.

You know how we sneer at the Americans for torching their institutions because nobody will hold anybody accountable anymore?

This is that. The government have their stooge in place and have rode roughshod over the position

This is worrying. When moderate parties decided to ignore or bend parliamentary rules, it allows a basis for extremists to do far worse if they get popular.

Resigning would be admitting she lost, silly question to ask her. She has majority of votes.

So this is going to roll on another week.
The government won’t be giving in, they have the numbers.. once this MoNC is defeated what then?
The opposition I think need to realise they are not going to win this and I don’t see a bump in the polls for them either.

    9. Now we see if the Taoiseach will run the country without an opposition’s participation. Just like they do in North Korea

Majority decided lads. It’s called democracy. Can we get on with governing? The shinners have lost their minds since realising they’re never getting into power and are determined to wreck the government of the state. “Oh! But Lowry’s given the finger to Paul Murphy! Fume!!”
This crap is straight out of their playbook in the north. Pull it all down if you can’t get your way.

I overheard someone in a queue talking about this say “this is why you need a man in charge there”. She’s doing women in politics a huge disservice.

It would be hilarious (and fitting) if it’s a tactless crook like Lowry that ends up bringing down the government.

    14. She should just leave a cardboard cut out of herself in the seat and go home on full wages, or even get a side job.

      – She still gets paid
      – And we get a more effective Ceann Comhairle

      It’s a win-win situation.

“the public will become tiresome of the issue”

God be with the days when the papers had proofreaders.

This is how it started in the USA, a little violation of the constitution here, a breach of the law there. So long as the “meta” is maintained. FFFG are doing this because they are unwilling to move with the times. This isn’t a two party system anymore that they have enjoyed for decades. What’s happening now is exactly what was said in the Dail its filibuster and they elected a Ceann Chomhairle who clearly has a bias towards keeping the established government happy.

The world order is shifting all across the planet in all countries, this is a pitiful and cowardly attempt to hold onto a dying horse by violating our constitution.

I don’t like this Ceann Comhairle so I’m going to shout at them till they go away. Now THAT’S how you democray.
