Good, the US might falter on sanctions but European sanctions are the ones that really hurt Russia.
Making Russia choose between holding onto the occupied territory’s or trade with Europe is a sensible leverage to exert.

So then never?

Correct!

Yes, why can’t we give a proper backbone to this. The fact of the matter is that the US is an economically less important part to Russia than Europe, and I use Europe advisedly here, it is more than the EU.
The EEA, the UK, the Swiss and the EU and partners should not be held hostage to a rogue US-Russia homemade agreement. How dare they take the Ukraine and Europe for granted?
They dare because we do not use our power. We do have a power. It might not be military, but it should, but it is economic and it is powerful enough.
Ukraine is shielding the rest of Europe, if we allow that shield to be broken, our own broken defence will be uncovered before we can strengthen it.
This is not difficult. We must stand with Ukraine, or we will be picked off like carrion.

Well done EU.
That’s the correct approach.
Can we come back please?

Meanwhile Macron is telling Ukraine they need to be “reasonable” about their territorial expectations.
And they are still pushing back on stronger sanctions against Russia.
In a word…they’re lying.

This negotiating position is pure fantasy given the current state of the conflict and the position Ukraine will be in if it drags on a couple more years. Russia holds 20% of Ukraine at this point and has the troops to carry on for years. Ukraine has a troop shortage as reported on by our own mainstream media plenty of times over the last year. It’s why they lowered the conscription age and health requirements.
The sanctions were a joke to begin with considering Russia still gets billions from the EU and that is far more money then we are giving Ukraine. Most businesses just renamed themselves and kept on dealing with russia and china and other countries are filling the rest of the void. The only use EU has for sanctions is as a minor bargaining tool.
This shows that some politcians in the EU are not interested in peace or they just don’t care. They are happy to let this war drag on another 5+ years until Ukraine runs out of men on the front lines and when Ukraine is in a even worst position to negotiate. It seems some countries in the EU are just hoping this conflict weakens Russia and don’t really care what happens to Ukraine so long as it achieves that goal. All so they don’t have to make the sacrifices that Ukraine is right now.
Before this war started Zelenskyy wanted to negotiate to stop this war starting but the US and Boris johnson told him no. Now Zelenskyy’s only hope is that he can somehow drag NATO into the war by getting NATO troops on the ground in Ukraine. Zelenskyy & Kier Starmer are pushing for a fantasy agreement where Russia allows NATO troops on the ground there. Putin will never agree to that under any circumstances as it would be the same as Mexico or Canada asking the US if they could have Russian troops within their borders. That’s how Putin sees it just as the US would view it the same way if roles were reversed. This entire situration is a shitshow at this point.
A far more realistic stance would be a agreement to remove sanctions if a buffer zone between Russia & Ukraine is maintained by a independant peace keeping force that isn’t Russia or NATO that both sides can agree on.

But isnt it then conditional? Isnt the amending of sanctions the condition?

you will see how fast they change their mind after some sort of peace treaty is established, with of course territorial losses of ukraine.
