Mobster is afraid his victims may team up against him. Good.

    2. saggio_yoda on

Does he realize that this could lead to an economic isolation of the US? It seems that sometimes he does not think before talking.

    3. Duanedoberman on

The US is gone at this point. Rational governments should plan to avoid the gibbering idiot in the corner throwing its food around.

      Leave them to it.

    4. The rest of the world has to move on. Let US impose tariffs all they want. Reciprocate and stop wasting time and effort on it. Setup trade channels elsewhere. Short term pain for long term gain for the rest of the world. Everlasting price increase and loss of trade for the US and its people who enable this anyway.

    5. Unhappy_Surround_982 on

This is the definition of a trade war. The countries affected responds. Which leads to countertariffs and the cycle continues until the global economy crashes. Strange that we were talking about a hard landing as late as November and now that has just disappeared…

With how integrated US trade is with Canada and the EU, he is going to fuck himself over.

    7. Sea-jay-2772 on

The scary thing is the definition of “work against” which equals “protect yourself” or “don’t agree with what the US says, just because they say it.”

Stop buying and using American products. Replace them with Canadian and Mexican products.

*”Tariffs on EU and Canada”* **aka** *”Tax the American people even more”*. US is the biggest net importer in the world.

**Guess who actually pays the tariff?** The importer, ^(which doesn’t w)*^(ant to take the hit and so pushes it onto domestic consumers in form of increased prices aka tax the average American.)*

      >Pros and Cons of Being a Net Importer

      >Being a net importer implies that a country has a trade deficit. A
benefit of a trade deficit is that it allows a country to consume more
than it produces. In the short run, trade deficits can help nations to
avoid shortages of goods and other economic problems. Trade deficits can
also occur because a country is a highly-desirable destination for
foreign investment. For example, the U.S. dollar’s status as the world’s
reserve currency creates a strong demand for U.S. dollars. Foreigners
must sell goods to Americans to obtain dollars.

      >**Trade deficits can create substantial problems in the long run.** The
worst and most obvious problem is that trade deficits can facilitate a
sort of economic colonization. If a country continually runs trade
deficits, citizens of other countries acquire funds to buy up capital in
that nation. That can mean making new investments that increase
productivity and create jobs. **However, it may also involve merely buying**
**up existing businesses, natural resources, and other assets.** **If this**
**buying continues, foreign investors will eventually own nearly**
      **everything in the country.**

    10. Come on Canada we need to work together , we need more than mablesyrup to buy in Europe, now we are not buying american anymore.

    11. ‘Trump wants to have Americans pay even more for goods’

      There. Corrected it.

    12. AlloAll0 on

Bring it on. It’s way worse for America than it’s for the rest of the world. American arrogance is completely blinding them.

    13. PainInTheRhine on

Tariffs if you don’t, tariffs if you do, tariffs for everybody. Trump is overplaying his hand. The problem is that he is as likely to call those tariffs off as escalate into something more than tariff war.

    14. No-Comedian-4589 on

Ehh, I used to “laugh” at R. Dalio videos about US as falling empire.

But only one idiot in power could change everything.

    15. joaoqrafael on

At this point, let the US tariff it all 200%. Let’s see how great that will work for them.

    16. HappyArkAn on

Sound like : “don’t do anything against me or i shoot” *hold a gun against his on head”

    17. Silverso on

What working against US means? Canada not agreeing to become the 51s state, Denmark not giving Greenland to US, EU not buying Teslas, EU not stopping to help Ukraine?

    18. schmeckfest on

And now everybody is talking about this, instead of the Signal scandal.

    19. Shawn_The_Sheep777 on

Canada needs new markets for its goods so it’s the reasonable thing to do. We all need to stop listening so much to Trump. All he is after is click bait.

    20. mr_sakitumi on

I recommend total economic isolation for the US.

It’s kind of hard in this globalization, but if you can replace an American product with another from the EU or from elsewhere, be my guest. Eventually they will feel it in their bones.

    21. Haxemply on

In his head, even considering trading with each other instead of the USA is conspiration against the USA. Doesn’t really matter since he wants to force an armed conflict with Canada and Denmark anyway, this may be as good of a reason as anything else.

    22. usa is getting coached by russia. This tactics are 1:1 what russia were doing since forever. Bully country if retaliate bully even more.

    23. So Trump put tariffs in place left, right and center, but if there’s a response from the EU, he throws a tantrum and implements even more tariffs?

I don’t get it, what did Trump expect when he put tariffs in place? Did he expect the EU (or China for that matter) to sit silent and just shrug it off?
