I hope these next 4 years serves as a wake up call for our TDs. It’s quite stunning that our entire livelihoods could be upended as a result of the actions of one man that none of us even had the opportunity to vote for. We need a new approach to our economy and try to become less reliant on foreign actors.

And the government hasn’t done anything for months currently

All we need to do is threaten to take his golf course in Doonbeg off him. He’ll back right off.

Depressing news. Astonishing that 50 years of FDI can be brought down overnight. We’ll be a third world country again.

I think these assumptions are weird. I don’t see how the pharma industry will leave overnight. There may be a slowdown in sector. Some lay offs and so on. Full blown shut down and 200k leaving seems unlikely.

This seems like an overly high figure, given the department of Finance estimated a a drop off of 80,000 future jobs in a trade war scenario

Vance will run and probably win next time out so America First policies will continue. We put all our eggs in one basket and now will cry bitter tears when a bully comes and takes a baseball bat to our basket. Fianna Fail and Fine Gael might yet rue that they won the last election as if there are massive job losses, tax hikes for all including those who pay nothing at present, social welfare and public sector pay cuts, the housing crisis will worsen and opposition to migrants will increase. Its a perfect storm coming our way. Will the Luck of the Irish somehow divert the storms path at the last minute to save us? I sure hope so but Lutnick who is no fool seems to be obsessed with our tax scam.

So much scaremongering going on but I dont think it will be as bad as people think. Trump is gutting the education system and any kind of scientific research so much that European countries are offering American scientists somewhere to go, so I honestly cant see big pharma rushing to move their plants back there it would completely back fire if they did. The whole thing is a shitshow designed to sow confusion and division worldwide

You need to be based here to sell into the EU market, you can’t make drugs in the US and sell into the EU without a lot of cost and legal issues. Most pharma here serve EU and the rest of the world

As a former member of SIPTU who dealt closely with Liberty Hall over a number of years, I wouldn’t put too much stake in this narrative.
Sadly they are not the brightest people.
