I so wish EU could step up and declare “Ukraine is with us, Russia and the USA can fuck right off”. Alas it’s not going to happen isn’t it?

This is for one category only: Defense and foreign affairs. It’s great progress but the title is click bait
What does this mean? I gather it’s a step in allowing Ukraine towards joining the EU, but how far off is that? How much significance does this step carry?
The question still remains why the EU would want an extremely corrupt and diplomatically inept country that would siphon all the money out of EU donors like France and Germany.
What the EU actually wants is a proxy that is distracting Russia while dangling the false carrot of “joining EU any day now” and pouring all that sweet honey into their ears.
