I know my oppinion means nothing but if I were the chief of EU Council, I would rather have a democratic Turkey as my partner. And we would figt Russia together. Tyranic regime of Erdogan should be toppled for for our own safety. It was him that flooded Europe with migrants in 2015.
We have a saying that goes the wolf survives the winter but never forgets the cold it endured.
Erdogan will not last forever but we will always remember this.

Morals are not a priority in geopolitics
Realpolitik trade-offs are real and I don’t envy any politician that has to face them. But you have to realize this kind of thing has long term consequences. I don’t know how much more clearly you can tell the people of Turkey… or Serbia… that democracy and human rights are valuable for other people but not them.

Looks like our politicians morals are flexible. WW2 wouldve ended quite fast if the politicians in europe didnt cave in to hitlers demands, seeing similarities even now with the treatment of Putin, Orban, Erdogan and Trump.

It’s no wonder the EU leaders have remained silent about this case. I still maintain my previous statement: the EU has a secret weapon. If NATO collapses, Turkey will need to participate in any EU organization to avoid geopolitical vulnerability. That’s why erdogan wants to be associated with the EU without fully joining.
The EU can’t even take action against the US, despite Trump imposing new tariffs on EU imports. The EU is playing with fire. If they don’t stop erdogan, they might have to deal with a super regime fundamentalist state later. He literally puts his rivals in jail for no reason.
While some EU politicians have supported İmamoğlu, it’s not enough. The EU leaders need to step in and support him more actively.
