That’s fine. We don’t need them. We’re at least 3 times Russia’s population.

    2. SorbetExpert1704 on

I mean, given the US’s performance in most of its wars, I’d say we’re better off without them 🤷‍♂️

    3. python168 on

Then since you don’t put nothing in the plate.

      FUCK OFF MY COUNTRY.

As you would say in the States Europe First.

Why would we host US missile on our soil that we don’t control and would absorb part of the Russian Nukes in case of NATO ( that’s just dead with this statement ) war and Radar that control every square cm of the continent.

      TLDR. FUCK OFF

Edit. As some other user pointed the protection is not completely off but this don’t change the fact that less commitment with the allies defence should be equivalent to less privilege to the USA. And I removed the slur

this title doesn’t match with the content of the article…

      >The memo outlines Hegseth’s stance that America is unlikely to offer significant support to Europe against Russian aggression. It highlights an expectation for [NATO allies](https://www.themirror.com/all-about/nato) to assume the primary role in defending their territory.

      >**The United States, the guidance suggests, will provide nuclear deterrence against Russia but will only commit forces that are not essential for homeland security or missions related to China.**

US nukes + partial US troops + EU is more than enough to defend European NATO countries.

Remember, Ukraine by itself with western weapons is kicking Russia’s ass right now.

    5. The real problem is that russia was aware of this before Europe

    6. Animationzerotohero on

US would want mining rights to helps allies too.

    7. rantheman76 on

We know. Why do you think we are upping the arms and plan a NATO without America?

    8. PoppedCork on

The US is only doing blatantly what it has being doing for years looking after it’s own self interests

    9. bebop9998 on

Europe doesn’t need the US to defend itself against a third world country like russia.

    10. i-readit2 on

So if Putin turns on trump . And America needs help. Do the Europeans just continue and not bother to help. American has turned out to be a true ally. I hope they all remember this.

    11. nelrob01 on

The US won’t bother defending anyone anymore. In fact they’ll attack previous allied nations as they see fit.

    12. Anyway no one should be afraid of Russia, a pathetic army that cannot win against a small nation…imagine against whole of Europe…

    13. ProfessorNoPuede on

The amount of power the US has given up because of Putin’s meddling and short-sightedness is staggering. It is such an incredibly stupid move.

    14. DancingWithAWhiteHat on

They really expect the soldiers stationed there to ignore being attacked?

    15. Raven_Photography on

Considering the slapping that Ukraine has given Russia, attacking a member of the European Union or NATO would be the end of Putin and Russia. German Leopards, French Le Clercs, and U.K. Challenger IIs would finish the scrapping of Putin’s armored forces. The Russians are using a Cold War army, against a modern armed force, they are outmatched.

    16. DeadlyCareBear on

I guess its just time for Europa to rely on themself and trustworthy allies, like canada. You cant trust he US anymore and we dont need to talk about russia. And the european authorities realize that, start to concentrate on our own military etc., also the public started to concentrate more on their separation, on european products.

So, longterm, it could be pretty positive for europe and strengthen europe alot, while it rested way to long on an ally like the US.

    17. Hilux_Avet_Hobie on

If we Europeans severely limit the money pouring into the US defence industry, they will eventually put a president in place to undo the damage. As some orange man would say “it would be the most amazing thing, like you be never seen before”

    18. Flipadelphia26 on

The article headline is sensationalist and the comments here from the fierce Reddit military experts are always something

Did anyone not expect Europeans to be the primary defenders of their homes? You’d just sit back and watch the USA come and do it?

“It highlights an expectation for NATO allies to assume the primary role in defending their territory.

The United States, the guidance suggests, will provide nuclear deterrence against Russia but will only commit forces that are not essential for homeland security or missions related to China”

    19. SraminiElMejorBeaver on

Even if the memo say :

      >The United States, the guidance suggests, will provide nuclear deterrence against Russia but will only commit forces that are not essential for homeland security or missions related to China.

It just look each day even less credible that Trump would ever allow those german f35/tornado to ever drop a nuke on Russia.

    20. butwhywedothis on

We have the Finnish on our side. They know how to deal with Russia.

We only need to import some Vietnamese farmers to deal with the US.

    21. daiaomori on

OK, we won’t bother to defend the US from China.

      Have fun.

    22. olaysizdagilmayin on

No one will bother defending Europe, the Europe will. USAians often sell their involvement in WW2 as a gesture to Europeans but it was not. They were happily selling weapons and benefitting from the war economy until Pearl Harbor, they join the war because they were bitten. Otherwise we wouldn’t see them at all. Same goes for Russians. Stalin and Hitler were allies until Hitler decided to attack them. They didnt save anyone but themselves, and continue shitting on people that they claim to liberate.

    23. magpieswooper on

Much NATO. US then should reimburse the EU for the costs of articles 5 invocation.

    24. _-Burninat0r-_ on

Trump is playing Hearts of Iron IV as the USA, and joins the Comintern instead of the Allies

    25. hotDamQc on

Of course they won’t, why would Russians fight Russians? Still want to buy F35’s?

    26. beatbox9 on

Yeah I know. I got added to the signal chat group earlier. Stop posting old news.

    27. conrat4567 on

We don’t need it. And when the dust settles and the US wants to get back involved with Europe, the unified line of “fuck off” will be uttered

    28. If this was true the US would remove the 100k plus it still has stuck in Europe.

    29. TheJiral on

Where is the news in this report?

Isn’t that general knowledge by now?

    30. TheStargunner on

Can they just leave NATO already? The largest force in it refusing to execute article 5 makes it useless. Let us in Europe just get on with our lives as this former empire slips into managed decline.

    31. bltsrgewd on

So the memo basically says that, in the event of a conflict with China, America should prioritize committing conventional resources for the bigger threat. Russia is clearly not a bigger threat than China.

You aren’t the center of the world Europe. We have concerns elsewhere. We have territory in the pacific that isn’t covered under NATO and allies in the region that we also have defense agreements with. Why should we prioritize you over them or our own people?

    32. watch-nerd on

      The headline is hyperbolic.

If you read the Washington Post article, that’s not what the memo says.

It says there will be a shift in burden sharing, not a complete cut-off of support.

    33. Texas43647 on

Nonsense. We wouldn’t still have a bunch of military stationed there if that was case. Genuinely think he’s just trying to piss Europeans off and it’s working.

    34. Plastic_Friendship55 on

Because they know Russia has no reason to attack Europe

    35. NoHopeNoLifeJustPain on

It’s a great chance for Europe, a renaissance without USA, we must not miss it, not this time.

    36. Competitive_Bee2596 on

      EU GDP: 20 trillion.

      Russian GDP: 2 trillion.

      Save yourselves.

    37. I think it’s time for all EU countries that still have US military personnel on their soil to expel them.

    38. BarracudaDismal4782 on

No worries. We only needed US help in WWII because it was a World War and the enemy was an european country. We don’t need US help to defends ourselves against Russia, they couldn’t even take Ukraine in 3 years, let alone the entire continent. Also stop asking us for eggs.

    39. RedRumsGhost on

Anyone still believe Trump is not a Kremlin puppet.

He’s just a second rate Saddam Hussein tribute act.
