“The BDI views with great scepticism the efforts of the U.S. government to enforce political ideas with regard to corporate guidelines beyond its own national borders,” said Germany’s BDI, Reuters reported.
“Corporate principles apply regardless of which government is in power in which country. We therefore encourage companies to stick to their principles.”

Given how broadly Trump seems to define “DEI” this should be viewed as something that would be impossible to comply with. If any country on the receiving end of this dumbass ultimatum even tried to comply with it, they would find the goalposts being constantly moved.

I would have been even happier if the response was, “From now on, all manufacturers and service providers involved in government contracts must meet the minimum standards for workers’ rights, including the right to unionize, as well as health and safety regulations set by the German government (or the EU, where applicable).”

The end of all logic and principle. Tribalism at its fines. Only none of the options to follow is actually on your side and deviating from Trump’s or Putin’s narrative seems not to be welcome in their respective countries.
Maybe … just maybe Germany isn’t soo bad..? Just needs more accountability transparency and infrastructure/digitalisation/child care. And fewer of those Fox News-like outlets who simply portray the enemy of the day so you get your emotional fix to know that you are right about everything and morally on track…
