      >The number of tourists who visited Ireland in February was down 30%, with the economy missing out on more than €88 million compared with the same period last year according to data from the Central Statistics Office (CSO)

Ah classic head in the sand, fair play.

It’s cheaper to go to Spain or Italy for a week than spend a few days in Dublin..

As much as I like Dublin I’d rather be sipping a cool beer in the Italian sunshine than getting a soaking in Dublin while drinking a pint that’s too expensive to enjoy and dreading running the gauntlet on the LUAS to get back to the hotel.

Deny &/Or Deflect must be the only thing written inside “a Irish politician guide to problems”

It’s cheaper to fly to Amsterdam than have two pints in city centre Dublin

How can he deny it? Blatantly lying to the people that pay his salary.

they will be able to deny this until the summer. the summer figures, presumably, come in fully sometime early in autumn. by that stage we’re fully fucked – it’ll be 30-40% down across the board for a full year then.

Time to appoint a Tourism Czar for 2026!

This is a 4-5 year problem minimum. Irish officials are incapable of recognising leading indicators because their jobs depend on ignoring them – it’ll be a “crisis” in Autumn 2026

“The plane is not on fire”

He says as the plane is on fire.

Fine Gael denies everything. Corruption runs deep!

I’m from a tourist area, and the hotels are full every day of the week, so I don’t think he is wrong in what he is saying tbh.

Lets see, viturally no road or rail infrastructure west of the Shannon where tourist actually want to go. €20 euro lunches. €300 euro hotel rooms. Parking charges, visitor centre charges. Shit weather.

‘We’ve got almost 100% hotel occupancy..does that sound like a tourism crisis?’

Well the yanks probably can’t afford it now….

The key is to shop around for the best value and vote with your feet.

Is there any other country that politicians can be asked about Problem and the media just allow them to deny its existence and accept that as an actual answer?

    15. Dependent_Survey_546 on

Just wait for the hotels to come knocking with their hands out.

There needs to be a cap on hotel rooms. They are an extortionate price and breakfast isn’t included any longer either. It is a huge turn off for domestic and international visitors.

Hostels in this country are very expensive too

    17. Think Americans are going to be too broke to come over this summer.

      – bad weather

      – dirty city

      – douchebags

      – expensive accommodation

      – no particular cuisine

Yeah, there are a lot of cheaper places to drink a random beer or coffee.
