      In computing over at TUD, we have a lecturer grill us about scope, and I was going to mention this to him, because this is fucking stupid, I found it niche when Snapchat did it but when Meta does it to WhatsApp it’s just stupid, it’s a waste of time and money integrating something that has NO PLACE BEING THERE, it’s like putting a strip club inside your local SuperValu,

      WhatsApp: you’re there to communicate with others not use an AI if I want to use AI I’ll open a browser or download the app

      I was happy to just ignore it until I noticed they’ve replaced search with their crappy bot so you can’t search without it now. I really dont want the bot reading my messages and logging my information. A core strength of WhatsApp has always been that its been end to end encrypted so this feels like a wet slap

      You can delete the “chat” you’ve had with the AI but the icon will remain on your chat screen inviting future interactions – and as discussed above, deleting messages does not seem to mean a total withdrawal of the information you have inputted.

      Tech magazine Wired suggests entering the command /reset-ai – this results in a message from the chatbot that the AI will “reset to its default state” and delete its copy of the conversation from Meta servers.

      The Journal tried asking the AI how it could be removed from WhatsApp – but the answers it generated don’t work. The answers referred to WhatsApp settings options that don’t exist

      Switch to the WhatsApp Business app instead if you don’t want the AI. It’s not on that app yet.

      Use signal? It seems like every few years meta comes up with a new reason to completely ignore them.

      The only practical business examples of AI I’ve seen is Chatbots or Assistants and they aren’t even really AI by definition.

      A.I. in general is a bubble, probably won’t crash but more fade away from the limelight and just be another annoyance in our lives like Crypto.

      Sidenote but I’ve had to use the helpline for a couple of Irish businesses the past two weeks and every one had a bot or AI interface and I hated it. If my answer was simple enough to be answered by an AI I wouldn’t be calling. Took way too long to get an actual human. Even my local taxi place had an AI answering machine but it couldn’t understand the Irish address I was at 😭 this is all gonna blow up in their faces.

      You can download an APK of a previous version, install that and switch off auto update for it.
      Make sure you’ve backed your current version up first.
