The reason why the tariff war failed in the 1930s was the world fought back swift and hard against the United States. Learn from history. Fight back.
It will need 4 to 6 months to any significative respond. And in some way is good, because we need smart targets and not a stupid tariff on all good and services. Some countries will be opposed to them. Spain and Italy could be some major actors against. But even for them 20% will be a too big burden to not react.
Enough of the “could”. Canada has already announced our response. China had announced theirs. Austrailia folded like a cheap suit. I assume the UK will as well. And from what I can gather Italy and Spain will likely crater any meaningful response from the EU. So let’s just lay it out in the open so I, as a Canadian, know if my country will stand alone in this economic war, or if we will have some company.

The only way out of this is to out last the US citizens. It’s on them to deal with their government. Every country is going to feel some pain. All other countries have to maximize the pain to American citizens and American companies.
That’s a bad idea. Period.
