      >There is very little public support for McGregor in the poll, with an overwhelming 90pc of respondents saying they would not vote for him if he ran for public office. Just 7pc said they would vote for him, while 3pc said they didn’t know.

      >Furthermore, 69pc said they would be less likely to vote for their local TD or councillor if they backed McGregor in his bid for the Áras.

Unsurprising really, yanks and twitter bots can’t vote here.

    3. Can you imagine the non stop memes, reels and tiktoks if Ireland has a President named ‘McGuinness’?

    4. pixelburp on

7% too high TBH; paywalled article so can anyone clarify the source of the poll? Phone?

    5. Basic_Treat3974 on

Ya but how many of that 7% are actually registered to vote. I’d bet it’s actually more likely to be under 5% if he could actually run – which he can’t.

    6. Logical_Park7904 on

The 7% are fellow rapists, drug addicts and assault merchants.

As high as that? Jesus wept, there’s some absolute spanners out there.

Mairead McGuinness should be the full headline here. “Cokehead unimportant” is not news, and masks a genuine national conversation we need to have about the adults vying to represent us.

I don’t know how I feel about McGuinness, on the one hand she’s very accomplished and has the media ability to be very good at the whole figurehead thing, but on the other she’s far more socially conservative than she lets on, she did her best to avoid supporting repeal and is weirdly pro church influence in politics.

The best part about Irish presidents in all of my living memory is they represent everyone on this island without exception and raise voices that are silenced. Whether that’s listening to my granny’s ICA chapter, visiting the local youth centre, or inviting activists in direct provision to visit the Aras, the office is above the politics that pits people against each other. McGregor is clearly incompatible with the role but I’m not sure McGuiness isn’t either.

There must be someone else surely. This can’t be all we’ve got.

      It’s all so dumb.

The president can’t even do half the shit mcgregor thinks he can do.

All of this is just for show.

Seem strange that they didn’t prompt for Connolly considering she was the highest ranked of the promoted “left” candidates

And we all know the 7% and what type of people they are

      >Just

That’s a far larger percentage than I thought.

Why oh why are we still mentioning his name in discussions about the presidency

Or any subject other than prison for that matter?

I am hoping for Michael McDowell. He has some actual soul, unlike a hack like McGuinness

    17. this job is only important in the matter of optics, lets choose on that basis.

So 7% are ignorant, rapist-loving braindead oxygen thieves is basically what this article is saying.

    19. boardsmember2017 on

Time and time again we’re printing articles about McGregor, when the truth is he won’t get near the ballot, and if he did, almost zero people would vote for him after the lies he told on the podium at the White House. Rattling off untruths and disinformation isn’t a way to gain favour with a savvy electorate.

We saw in the November election the so called right couldn’t muster 16 votes between them. Ireland is never going to vote that way, we are bucking the trend.

In a 2024 study, 10% of people said they strongly believed in the existence of the Loch Ness Monster.

    21. relax_carry_on on

Jesus. For those who said they’d vote for him and those who are unsure; you’d wonder what went wrong in their lives to make them think that way about such a horrible human being.

    22. noisylettuce on

Only reason someone like him or Bertie would run would be to guarantee the position for some even worse ultra unionist.

    23. zeroconflicthere on

7% of people would be happy if mcgreggor best up their elderly grandfather

    24. urmyleander on

Actually I’m worried that 7% would vote for him… that’s extremely worrying.. like how many of that 7% are allowed to drive, operate heavy machinery or use gas cookers?

    25. Bolvaettur on

It’s unacceptable that as many as 370,674 actual people would vote for that rapist to be president of Ireland.

    26. Wonderful_Flower_751 on

7% of the public are as ignorant as it’s possible to be. They should be ashamed of themselves.
