I know I may sound stupid here but hasn’t Russia refused peace for like the time it attacked Ukraine?

I feel like everyone thinks they can just ask Russia to stop or we’ll do something different to what we have not done already.

      Why would Russia care now?

France and Russia are in a Cold War in Africa. They have beef outside of Ukraine.

We ought to embargo all of their ships coming out of Gulf of Finland.

Incoming ships, fine, they can still receive but block them from exporting, especially oil.

I want to understand something –

for the past 2 years the messaging from EU leaders has been “We will not negotiate with russia, they only want to use a ceasefire to re-arm and attack again.”

Now a week ago it has overnight changed to “Well *we* want negotiations, but russia doesn’t want to…”

Why this change in attitude, i wonder.

Yes about time to teach Russia to keep for themselves

Yeah we’ve heard that a thousand times already. Come back when we’ve agreed on something concrete.

How much does he really care if fishing rights are more important to him than security ?

Give your head a shake if you think Russia will accept any kind of reasonable peace agreement.  And why would they ?  The U.S. just tariffed Ukraine but not Russia, sending a clear signal that the U.S. will economically support Russia, while militarily supporting the Ukraine.  (Putin probably said he can live with that).   In reality, the U.S. probably hopes this war will last a very, very, long time as long as countries keep buying weapons from the U.S.

      Now do something.

I knew ukraine was going to have a hard time when nato refused to setup a no-fly zone. I knew ukraine was going to have a hard time when no troops would be sent.

You can’t just throw money and weapons forever at someone who is actively in a fight and expect them to divert attention to picking up money and figure out how to use disparate weapons systems while defending themselves against an overwhelming foe.

I hope for the best, but my thought is this is looking more and more like a n/s korea, e/w germany type of situation.

All endless and empty threats. Do they need to kill all of us so Macron and the like would agree that they don’t want peace? Bomb a few more playgrounds in my city? Do we need to start drafting 18-year olds? With that level of support,*there won’t be Ukraine to support.*

Make a naval blockade, don’t allow any russian ships to enter or leave the baltic sea

    13. Unless this turns into action, I just don’t wanna hear it anymore. almost 4 years and all we get a strongly worded statements and yet any major action for war that is “existential” to Europe. At this point, I’m thinking people are just using this to farm karma.

    14. Macron says this Macron says that. The French aid effort is pitiful, both real terms and as a percentage.

    15. Hmm… maybe he is hinting by this that he wouldn’t mind calling Putin in the evenings again, like in the good old days, and having hours-long conversations about peace?

There recent few years have really done a number on my trust in UN and the EU. Strong action, condemnations, Yadi Yada. Difficult to not get totally cynical.
