Presumably a procedural fuck-up from the school.

These kinds of investigation are really difficult to get right, and any error in procedure (nevermind fact) will be fatal to the whole disciplinary process.

It’s fairly bad if there was a procedural fuck up in the investigation. In most organisations the second something like this crops up you’d bring in external HR specialists to conduct the investigation and/or a lawyer. I wonder if that happened here?

I wonder if there’s a bigger issue with the management of schools generally. Schools have become more complex places than they ever were from a governance perspective. There is more money, rules about spending the money, need for capital works and procurement, managing different kinds of staff, dealing with increasingly complex laws around areas like data protection and child protection. And, as in this case, employment law in an environment where the outside world can reach into the school more easily than ever before.

In the past a school was manageable by a principal with a teaching background and limited management experience and a mostly volunteer board. It’s hard to see how that can continue.

Perhaps the school realised it’s a he said she said re Niamh telling the principal she was the GAA Catfish. Based on no other evidence and the school skipping some steps in the disciplinary process decided to call it quits before the judge ruled against them.

The matter of student safety is now what should be concerning people. Despite Miss Farrell stating that she’s not the catfish she effectively outed herself publicly given the fact that she confirmed what the 2Johnnies said on their catfish episodes that they informed her that part three would be coming out and that they received a legal letter to stop episode 3 and finally that a welfare check was done on Miss Farrell. Personally if I was the parent of a student at that school I’d be removing my child. After stealing a minors image to use online and false allegations of rape and assault I wouldn’t want my child anywhere near her.

How the hell can this woman face a classroom again? When I was a kid and a teacher did they would be ripped in class every single day, kids were brutal in the 2000s. Maybe they all are more polite nowadays.

      > Asked by judge Brian Cregan if his client had been wrongly identified, Mr Power told the court the disciplinary process had been stopped, which is what he and Ms Farrell had sought to achieve. <

      Well…

I doubt this is the end of the story giving 1. How many people’s life’s she has damaged and 2. The fact that children safety should be the number 1 priority for schools.

Having brought this to the mainstream, I do think the 2 Johnnies have a responsibility here to address this somehow.

I remember going on the beer for Xmas during the leaving cert year and seeing my Irish teacher out in the Pub, she left with all her friends because she didn’t want students seeing her.

Imagine being known as the most famous Catfish in Ireland and having to face young students…. Hard to imagine she ever works in a classroom again, law and punishment aside the girl has some serious mental health issues.

“Mr Justice Brian Cregan asked if he could take it that this meant “your client was wrongly identified?”
Mr Power said he could take it that the school had ceased the disciplinary process and it would go no further, adding that he could say no more than that.”

      ……yeah because it’s her

She is probably flat out renaming the accounts and coming up with a new attempt because she isn’t gonna seek help for whatever is wrong with her.

Hopefully no one falls for her stuff ever again.
