This is because Spain’s prime minister (Pedro Sánchez) visit to China, our president has been approaching China since his first legislature started, that’s because China needs a partner in the EU and recent gestures (like voting against electric car tariffs on China) have granted us multimillion-dollar investments, now Sanchez hopes to reduce the trade deficit with China (something the embassador has already pledged to do)

    2. Oh, you mean like the US is doing to itself right now? We watched brexit. You’d think we would have learned from that

Typical mob talking: “Hey, be careful, someone (not me of course), could shoot you in the back when you least expect!”.

So they’ve been punching Europe in the face for two months now, and suddenly they want Europes help in a retarded tradewar against China? Yeh that’s not going to happen.

    5. LordTrololo on

If the EU had brains they would try to make a deal with China, ASEAN, Japan and Korea.

The basics should be (among others)
      – respect for international borders and peaceful border disputes resolution (this would be China placing pressure on Russia and calming her neighbours)
      – obligatory level of minimal corporate taxes so that there is no more tax dodging

But Meloni is already flying to the US to do some sweet sweet ass kissing so I doubt such a scenario will happen….

If The current Trump regime doesn’t like what you’re doing, you’re on the right track.

Why? Are they unreliable, mercurial, likely to insult their closest allies, likely to say other countries might like to “directly pay money into their treasury” …

      Etc

    8. MogwaiYT on

I don’t think the rest of the world gives a flying fuck what anyone in this US administration says any more. They go around insulting country after country, and then expect them to come back with a begging bowl asking for scraps.

Quite frankly, getting into bed with America right now is like “cutting one’s own throat”.

China is as safe a trade partner as any other. During the peak of the financial crisis, out of all our investors, they offered us the best deals and used the leverage for political pressure the least. The USA has been trying for many years to project to China an image of what it is itself doing to its trade partners.

Don’t give China more than 49% on anything, for safety, and don’t get too reliant on only them, and it should be fine.

Do the American far-right truly believe the world will wait around for a country that turns its back on its allies? Whether other nations are poor or not… they’ll turn to China!! Spain is absolutely right to do so!!

Greece, Spain, Portugal, and Ireland suffered greatly during the 2008 crisis! They certainly won’t be waiting around for the childish whims of the current United States,a nation now led by a giant baby.

This administration doesn’t even provide guarantees to countries regarding the agreements made… It’s absolute uncertainty! At this point, China is probably more reliable than them!!

China never threatened Groenland. I don’t see China as an enemy country.

I live how the US shits on everyone then acts surprised and outraged when other countries try and work around them. FAFO

They honestly believe they are the good guys, NO MATTER what they do and say. And by that token, everyone else is the bad guy, NO MATTER what they do. It’s about US = “Innately good”, the rest of the world = “Innately bad”.

      >”It would be like cutting one’s own throat”.

To be fair he does know exactly what this feels like.

    15. jailbot11 on

If the US hates you for it, you’re probably doing the right thing. Go Spain!

    16. Stephenalzis on

So, what America is saying is it’s the right move for Spain, then?

    17. narayan77 on

They need to mind their own business, Spain is a sovereign country.

    18. No cutting your own throat is turning again your allies and trading partners. The US is rapidly becoming a nobody in international relationships and trade.

    19. Raven_Photography on

No, imposing blanket tariffs on everyone who trades with you and screwing over your allies is cutting your own throat. What Spain and the rest of the world is doing is demonstrating that the US isn’t as important as we made ourselves out to be. The rest of the world can get along without us.

    20. NoGemini2024 on

Funny… now say the same about applying tariffs to the whole world without predicting that perhaps the rest of the world would just stop / reduce trade w US and start trading more w other countries?

    21. Smells_like_Autumn on

Reminds me of Cut my own throat Dibbler, similar ethics as well.

God forbid a country looks after its own interests instead of mollifying a senile narcissist.

    22. Strict_Natural_9903 on

Imagine your prime minister or President in your european country using language like: “It would be like cutting one’s own throat”. We must never get used to or adopt this kind of behaviour 🇪🇺

    23. manzanapocha on

Hmm who should we side with

The one who manufactures for the whole world… or the decaying empire that’s had a powerful rotten stench since january 20?

      Decisions, decisions!

    24. American Republicans are quite mad that the rest of the world not only retaliated but that the opposition to the US madness is fostering closer trade and relations between what the US Republicans see as their current enemies and their future ones.

They’re doubly mad that it’s not the US that’s getting to hold the knife to everyone’s throat and extortionate what they want.

China understands that economic entrapment takes decades and, like a heroin dealer, the first hits are free while the inevitable addiction does the rest.

    26. seajay26 on

Nice dibbler quote there. Doubt a republican has enough imagination and empathy to be a Sir Terry fan though.
