As much as I would like that money spent in Europe, some capabilities are only provided by US weapon manufacturers. Offering to buy them (probably with funds coming from the EU) is a pretty smart move and could placate Trump. Maybe this way he will give more value to Ukraine than to Russia. Pretty sad it has to come to this but Ukraine has to make the best of a bad situation.
Be careful of the kill switch. Trump is a russia asset.

Just wait a few days. Russia will start buying arms from the US, and our government will sell them. Meanwhile, we will find excuses not to sell to Ukraine. I really wish I could put a /s tag on this, but I don’t think I can.
