Why did they have to give a name to something that is normal course of running a business?

THis has been going on for a few years now, companies have finally figured out that making big announcements about new jobs, followed shortly afterwards by announcements of redundancies is not great

So they are slowly letting people trickle off on redundancies and not making big news.

Someone leaves, push the workload onto the people left

This is nothing new, doesn’t have anythign to do with Trump and the artice itself tells you it is horseshit ““While we can’t definitively link all cautious hiring behaviour to the timing of the US tariff announcements”

The biggest issue will be a freezing up of any expansion and not replacing jobs where they can avoid it.

There’s huge uncertainty generally and businesses aren’t likely to expand or add risk if they don’t absolutely have to.

I don’t think you’ll see a massive rush to do anything tbh as the Trump situation is just pure chaos. He’s not really giving them much incentive to do very much other than hunker down and freeze.

One of the biggest issues in this scenario is a risk of a global downturn that will also not be avoided by just emigrating either.
