L’UE fa una pausa contro-tariffari contro di noi per “dare una possibilità ai negoziati”. Sono così stanco di avere speranza che l’UE abbia un osso posteriore.

No reason to hurt yourself after your adversary stops hurting you and themselves. At least if the tariffs go up again counter tariffs can go up right away
Well, I see a picture of a person that has a history of shady deals with US based consulting companies and who has been very active to negotiate all kind of data sharing deals with US.
Nothing new here..
You’re angry that Trump blinked first, and that the EU is negotiating for the rest of the tariffs to be dropped, while warning that all of the counter-tariffs can get flipped back on instantly if the US doesn’t agree.
Oh, and we haven’t actually had to damage European manufacturing by imposing tariffs in order to get to this point.
And you think that’s not a massive win?
Can someone clarify? Are the aluminium and steel tariffs, which the newest counter-tariffs were a reaction to, on pause as well? And do the 10% tariffs now apply, in which case it sounds like the EU would react to 20% tariffs but not 10% tariffs?
What do you mean? This is the smartest way.
The EU is not a turtle OP. Where’s the European Mitch McConell.
Somebody needs to be the adult in the room.
As far as I am aware Trump/US has folded. Where has the EU shown weakness?
Why wouldn’t the EU string this along to get in a better position with regards to letting companies organise their supply chains away from the US and why wouldn’t we hold off while getting the military equipment Ukraine needs from the US while Europe builds up its military industry?
This is like negotiating with terrorists (like Russians). It may work to a degree, but one should be prepared to pull the plug immediately once there’s another 180 turn in the communications. US is a bad faith operator.
Just to clarify, yesterday the EU countries allowed the EU leadership to impose the first round of tariffs at any time (as a response on steel and aluminum tariffs).
Now, the EU is preparing a response on the 10% base tariffs applied yesterday (and which will be increased to 20% in 90 days) and on the tariffs on cars.
This gives the EU more flexibility in negotiations and some time to prepare additional tariffs.
EU is playing it smart
That leaves Canada and China the only countries that have stood their ground with reciprocal tariffs.
Fresh user with sketchy history
It is we the people, who vote with their money. You are still allowed not to buy any american made stuff or service.
Retaliatory tariffs are almost as dumb as Trump’s tariffs.
the smart thing is trying to trying to safe the current export market, while slowly transition to more stable markets. but that takes time.
EU acted smart, not like a bully.
The US blinked and eroded trust in their systems. The EU comes out looking as a more reliable partner while being alarmed we should also invest in our own infrastructure. Win-win.
The average EU tariff on US goods is between 1 and 5%, depending on the source. The US is imposing 10% (so between 2 and 10 times higher), plus additional even higher tariffs on some goods.
They will later increase to 5-25 times, but that’s paused, so obviously the EU should not react at all.
Someone is getting played and it’s not Trump.
Putting aside your ego for the greater good is a sign of strength and maturity. Exactly what Trump doesn’t have.
Here it is not about character, but about ensuring that the damage caused by that crazy person is as little as possible.
Why is eu pretending like trump did this accidentally? He did it to buy cheap stock and then sell at much larger price
He grifted
The fact that the whole world is pissed at usa and there is millions who lost a lot – who cares
His rating is way down but who cares he personally is getting richer and his friends owners are making back their billions so…
Who cares but eu thinks there can be actual negotiations and relationship
Come on
This is not a sport. Livelihoods of a billion of people are impacted by a trade war between USA and EU.
It is very funny to look at the USA shooting themselves in the foot repeatedly, until you remember actual people will suffer from this, not the assholes holding the gun.
The real blow is slowly brewing, which is the fall of confidence in US, diversification and distancing from US, and it takes time to materialize the impact (plenty if you consider how bureaucratic EU can be), EU can live with a 10% bump and the time is better spent into getting away from US than trading threats
The EU is behaving like an adult.
Waiting for sure data before committing to retaliatory tariffs that will hurt EU companies.
By waiting some weeks, they also give a chance to the stock market to find some kind of stability and exit from the “doom and gloom” mentality.
Also, Trump has the attention span of a 3 y.o. so by waiting a couple weeks, EU is reducing the risk of a “counter raise” of the tariffs, just like it happened with China.
Well hey we could always not explore our options and go nuclear and then when there’s an economic crisis SURELY the far right won’t gain more voters around Europe.
The whole tariff thing is basically a strongman-scheme by Trump to blackmail other countries, and a money-making scheme for his rich buddies. He say “tariffs are on”, so they can invest a shitload of money by buying the dip, and then tariffs are suddenly back off, so the DJI can go up again and they can make a profit. It’s very transparent.
By the comments I am seeing that agree with EU’s backing off, Trump has successfully bamboozled you. There are still 25% tariff on cars, steel and aluminium + 10% based tariffs. Those didn’t exist 1 month ago, he is taxing EU goods a whole bunch more and many of you are fine with this…
I have little faith in these negotiations. They would require a fundamental level of trust that isn’t there. I also think the EU is often too quick to concede when it comes to negotiating in general.
This is not lack of a backbone, Trump folded first and the EU is just being somewhat intelligent
I am honestly for this line that the EU is running. They take a long, hard look at how much a given measure will hurt the US (particularly the decisionmakers), and what the impact will be for the citizens in the EU.
Some of it will come off as soft, but honestly, I much perfer leadership with heart and brains over whatever it is Trump is doing. That’s shotgun policies implemented after carefull consideration for about 10 secs. Probably less.
Who cares if there is a tariff on counters, or not!
With others words what Trump said is truth. Everyone are kissing his ass includes useless EU.
I don’t have a problem with the EU pausing some counter-tariffs against the US, that’s understandable even though they already applied a 10% on every product (and more on steel or cars)
**The worst part is that they will also pause the required talks between EU members to agree on those counter-tariffs that might be required.**
I understand that it’s difficult to coordinate and agree something between more than 20 countries, but this “90 days pause” could end up being just a 2 week pause, so the EU should have their plan already agreed and ready.
Unfortunately it doesn’t take a genius to guess that EU won’t do try to agree on anything between their members till the last wave of Trump tariffs are already live. That’s too late…
While I’m glad I was born in the EU, I really feel embarrassed by the lack of leadership and vision from of our politicians. We are a fucking punching bad and everyone knows it.
Absolutely pathetic response, their 10% baseline tariff and 25% on steel/aluminum is allowed to freely happen for “90 DaYs” unquestioned.
The EU showing once again that they’re weak and never to be taken seriously on serious matters.
I think negotiation is smart. You can still negotiate crossing the river on the bridge as long as you haven’t set the bridge on fire. I do think however defense wise we are still not moving nearly fast enough.
That’s no ‚I have the biggest dck‘ competition. Tariffs are always bad for the people. The EU isn’t weak for negotiation and doing the best for it’s people and company’s.
backbone about what?
If having some backbone means impoverishing millions and ramping up inflation then no thank you.
The EU is acting reasonably here, doing what is beneficial for us, so if it looks bad to you, then you might want to change your perspective
Isn’t this the back and forth of Brinksmanship? I’m happy to be corrected/educated on this cos my knowledge of this aspect of politicking is dusty as hell. Genuine question.
As long as Merkel and her spawns run Europe EU is fucked. They are all inept corrupt cunts
Keep boycotting American goods.
No, this is right. We are no bullies. We won this and now we get to mark our moral high ground.
Europe is strong!
