It sounds fairly clear in the article that she was using “trend” in the statistical sense, not the colloquial one. I’m not sure why anyone would take offence at that, and I have ADHD.

**Her party is Fianna Fail**, which I am bringing up because RTE were very, *very* careful to intentionally not mention it even once, despite being able to name the party of every other politician named in the article.

      >People Before Profit-Solidarity TD Ruth Coppinger

Stopped reading after that. The woman is shameless in generating outrage over nothing. Not one bit surprised she’s trying to make a mountain out of molehill over this

There’s an increase in diagnosis because there’s an increase in understanding, especially in regard to how ADHD affects women and girls. I was diagnosed aged 26 and I can’t even express how much better my life is now in every way, thanks to medication and just generally understanding my brain better. How I wish I was diagnosed 20 years ago. I would have suffered so much less. (I developed anorexia as a teen and then substance abuse issues in my twenties – all quite common with ADHD especially when it’s untreated and unrecognised). So yeah, her comments are quite frankly disgusting. Just fund mental health services and stop calling a neuro developmental disorder (that can be extremely disabling) a ‘trend’.

I’m dealing with ADHD and Autism, for me apology is enough, she misworded it… However I do have an issue with the neglect all parties have given mental health services in general.

Stop blaming autism and adhd diagnosis for increasing the lists. The services have been woeful for any young adult for years I seen people report suicidal and wait 18 months. If you are autistic and depressed it’s worse, 99.99% will blame it on the spectrum which you are expected to just accept. You can be both !

Does she not understand the usage of the word ‘trend’ in a data analytics context?

Either she’s stupid or disingenuous – neither are great

What’s the actual quote from her?

I haven’t seen it published in any of the articles, just references Butler using the word “trend”.

This is a massive nothingburger. I have ADHD and Autism, I’m not a fan of FFG. She used “trend” in the statistical sense and then immedately caught herself. PBP just looking for easy points.
