In March 2019, the number of European visitors to the US saw an all-time high of 1.300.976. During the pandemic, that number dropped to 430.861 in March 2020 and to 56.031 in March 2021. March of 2022 saw a recovery to 745.780 and to 1.106.781 in March 2023. March 2024 saw the numbers of European visitors almost back to pre-Covid levels, with 1.257.692, but official data for March 2025 appears to indicate an abrupt halt to the recovery, as European visitor numbers drop back down to 1.077.278, about 180.000 less than for the same month one year prior.
On the flip side – American travelers planning a European vacation dropped from 45% in 2024 to 37% in 2025, a staggering decline since 2021. The European Travel Commission, or ETC, reports cost as the main factor of this sinking interest. People now seek destinations offering similar experiences without compromising their budget.

Trump’s action have definitely had a big influence, but there are also broader economic factors at play.
It must go down more. The USA needs to realize how much of their tourism industry suffers when they decide to financially bully the world.
There are few things in the US that you can’t find in Europe.

Why would ANY foreign tourist consider visiting the US after seeing what their sick Dictator Wannabe has inflicted firstly on his own citizens and secondly on the world stage?
Tourism in 2022 generated over 2 TRILLION DOLLARS revenue for the US ( over 2% GDP)
Trump has devastated future revenue and potentially millions of businesses and jobs associated with tourism as wary world travellers stay away from the HELLSCAPE that Trumps US has become 🆘⛔️🆘⛔️🆘
Is my math correct that that is like 20 empty Boeing 787 per day that were filled last year? Reasonable start.
Drop in the bucket
We planned a 3 weeks holiday to (former) friends in Miami. We’re a family of 5 and I put €10k aside to spend ( now $11.3k …. cheap cheap).
But first of all I don’t want to be in an house with Latinos who voted for Trump (although the stay is free). And Secondly …… as a mixed family with Venezuelan roots, I’m afraid I’m the only one passing the immigration with my pale white skin.
So Spain is the destination for this summer.

Why would I want to visit a third world country where the people are morons who think they are the best? Almost every other country in the world would be better to visit
No one wants to go to America. Many Americans are trying to get out!!! 🤣
Just cancelled the trip there for this summer.
Luckily I took fully exchangeable/refundable tickets and hotel…
That’s a 4K€ loss for Air France, but more importantly I was budgeting 12k€ for 3 weeks for 4 people to spend there (we had a week planned with family) that won’t be spent on US economy.
The majority of US voters, and the 70 millions who didn’t vote need to feel the pain. Shame for my family there who clearly doesn’t vote republican who will suffer as well and are quite upset about our decision not to come.
To put it this way.
I’ve been looking at going to the Caribbean for a while now.
I am not going to jump via the US anymore. Montreal and Toronto seem to have good connections.
I visited NYC back in August and told my family as a joke that “we need to go before the country disolves and becomes a real version of Handsmaids Tale, lol”.
Reminded me that I said kinda the same thing about covid.
