      Depends.

      Locked blade?
      Blade length?
Are you traversing weapon restriction zones?

It is a locking folding knife, it must be opened with both of the hands, and you can not carry it in many places, such as demonstrations and so on, not sure of the whole list. I like knives, but since nowadays, Germany really does not like migrants, I personally would not carry a knife, unless it is a Swiss army cute little knife, which is tolerated by everyone.

Depends on your knife, can you open it with one hand? How long is the blade? Check this blog out for reference: [https://knife-blog.com/german-knife-law/](https://knife-blog.com/german-knife-law/)
Some trainstations and places are “Waffenverbotszonen” where you get fined if you carry one on you and get checked by police.

      Depends on the knife

It must ~~have 1) a blade under 12 cm in length and~~ 2) NOT be able to be opened and locked with one hand only. IT’s ok if it opens with one hand but doesn’t lock; or if it locks but requires 2 hands to open

EDIT folding knives can have > 12cm blades.

They also must have only one edge

I’d understand getting a pocket knife when hiking, chances are you’d never need it but you never know.

But carrying around the city, what for?

    8. BigBorner on

Train / Busses: Mostly Nope. City: it’s complicated. You might get into zones where it isn’t allowed anymore. Hiking: yes that’s mostly fine.

You need to make sure what knife your carrying. Fixed with a blade length of max 12 cm are mostly fine. Folders that either do not lock open or cannot be opened with one hand are also mostly fine, independent of blade length.

      §42a Waffengesetz

      Locked – ok
      one hand opener – ok
locked AND onehand opender – not ok to carry

Why do you need to carry a knife in civilisation in 2025? Pathetic

    11. Why would you go out with a knife in an urban area? You will probably survive without one. Also, having a knife for security is a wrong thought. Pulling a knife against a group will end up in facing 5 sharp metals.
