Quando il sistema aprì al pubblico nel 1896, fu la prima ferrovia sotterranea in Europa continentale e la prima che fu progettata per essere elettrica dall’inizio (la metropolitana di Londra fu inizialmente alimentata a vapore).

      Next to the underground stations, underground public toilets were also constructed which featured innovative female urinals which allowed women to conveniently pee while standing up like men.

      You know what else is amazing, the fact that Hungry has fallen into an autocratic form of governing in the 21st Century. So unfortunate.

      Maybe urban legend, maybe not but there’s a story that the underground was built partly to replace noisy streetcar lines bothering high ranking aristocrats living on the current Andrássy avenue.

      If you want to learn more about this metro: there is the Földalatti Vasúti Múzeum in the Deák Ferenc tér station. They’ve got the old trains and everything.
