These talks didn’t had any relevance to US anyway, now that meeting will be replaced by another with Kellogg, the Pro-Russian number 1 figure from the US, and who knows what else he will demand now.

Don’t understand either what these Europeans are doing, probably seeking recognition, but undermining Europe’s position and collective strength.

No EU official, none of European biggest contributors, no Polish representative, and as much as many won’t like, no Georgia Meloni…

    4. Puzzleheaded_Ad8032 on

They wouldn`t have added anything intelligent anyway. Let the grown-ups talk instead.

    5. Rubio is stalling because Trump’s grand plan is sure to fail quickly and conspicuously if high-level talks begin in earnest. Trump has suffered a series of defeats and the American team would prefer to avoid another.

The US is going to slowly back away from this in the hopes that it just fizzles out and the American public forgets about it.

A quick summary of the “offer”:

      # What Russia gets:

      1. **”De jure” U.S. recognition** of Russian control in Crimea.
      2. **”De-facto recognition”** of the Russia’s occupation of nearly all of Luhansk oblast and the occupied portions of Donetsk, Kherson and Zaporizhzhia.
      3. **A promise that Ukraine** will not become a member of NATO. The text notes that Ukraine *could* become part of the European Union.
      4. **The lifting of sanctions** imposed since 2014.
      5. **Enhanced economic cooperation** with the U.S., particularly in the energy and industrial sectors.

      **What Ukraine gets:**

      1. **”A robust security guarantee”** involving an ad hoc group of European countries and potentially also like-minded non-European countries. The document is vague in terms of how this peacekeeping operation would function and does not mention any U.S. participation.
      2. **The return of the small part** of Kharkiv oblast Russia has occupied.
      3. **Unimpeded passage of the Dnieper River,** which runs along the front line in parts of southern Ukraine.
      4. **Compensation and assistance for rebuilding,** though the document does not say where the funding will come from.

On top of that comes the US minerals “deal”. I dont know if I should laugh or cry.

    7. badstuffaround on

Absolutely stupid deal. Ukraine will never accept any recognition of occupied territories as russian. If they did that they would effectively give up any diplomatic chance in the future of gaining them back. Plus any attack from Ukraine on these occupied areas would be an attack on Russia.

If Trump thought this was a good deal he’s a fucking moron. It would tell every other nation with border disputes that we are back to imperial times. It’s also saying Taiwan is next and China would only follow Trump’s lead.

Trump, Rubio and Witkoff negotiated a deal anyone could do if they wanted to give Russia all it wants plus changing international rules at the same time.

It’s exactly what everyone predicted Trump would do, he bullied Ukraine and Zelensky, blamed everything on them and he (Trump) took it up nr. 2 by Putin and Lavrov.

Shittiest negotiator ever and the MAGA movement are appeasers and weak scaredy cats.

    8. toniyevych on

That’s because the EU and Ukraine made clear statements about Crimea and other points. Rubio does not want to participate in negotiations which will certainly fail.

Technically, the US can withdraw from these negotiations and from the war in Ukraine, but it will clearly show the EU and other countries that the era of the US leadership is gone.

    9. whooo_me on

“Why won’t Ukraine let us surrender for them (and then let us stick them with the bill) ?!?”

      [flounce!]

    10. Weak_Definition_4321 on

Their daddy’s should’ve pulled out instead if you ask me.

    11. Aware-Chipmunk4344 on

Ukraine must firmly say no to and reject any peace proposal made by the despicable scum Trump requiring Ukraine to cede its territories, and fight on even without the US’s military aid and intelligence sharing till the day of victory arrives.

Russian can’t hold on for another year, so just hold on no matter how hard it is for one more year, and Ukraine shall gain the final triumph and spit on the face of Trump and Putin.

    12. AngryCur on

Fine. Have meetings in Ukraine and stop inviting the Americans. This is a European problem and Europeans need to solve it with serious strength. Let the Americans be irrelevant

    13. uttercross2 on

Maybe there will now be the opportunity for a sensible conversation without these two morons…

    14. Stonkasaurus1 on

I assume it is because Ukraine didn’t accept Russian occupation as a requirement for peace….

    15. Merochmer on

I believe lifting the sanctions on Russia is a major priority for Trump. A lot of the stuff Canada exports (timber, potash etc) can be exported from Russia.

Thus he can economically isolate Canada in order to prepare for a take over.

      From Trump:

HOPEFULLY RUSSIA AMD UKRAINE WILL MAKE A DEAL THIS WEEK. BOTH WILL THEN START TO DO BIG BUSINESS WITH THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, WHICH IS THRIVING, AND MAKE A FORTUNE!

    16. AdOne5089 on

This is the price we pay for not prosecuting Trump. We let him get away with Russian collaboration and far more. Sure, maybe members of his cabinet were prosecuted, but we failed to go after him out of fear and wanted to “return the soul of America.”

Clearly, that was a massive mistake. You can never let fascists get off Scott free. Trump is convicted of 34 felonies and is accused of far worse. We must retake our country and ensure the law applies to EVERYONE, including the god king.

    17. Electronic_Dark_4042 on

Perhaps China can interveen for peace and stability

    18. ResearchWooden5223 on

There a peace of shit they had no intentions of sorting the situation out and every intension of doing grubby deals with Russia for there own personal gain.

    19. DrAtomic1 on

NOW is the time for EU to ready it’s troops for an intervention and assist with the defense of Ukraine. Even if it just means retaking control of Ukrainian skies. Take out the drone commands, take out the artillery positions.
