Not even that. Putin needs this war to avoid unrest in Russia and consequential prison. It’s a distraction. BTW, Trump might try the same trick at some point.
They want to get Kharkiv without a fight. That’s 2nd biggest city in Ukraine and 30 kilometers from russian border. Previous attempts ended in slaughter of russians. How much resources and time they would need take that city by force?
