Should be an emergency law put in place to ban owning more than two properties, give owners a year to sell the additional or repossess and repurpose for social housing.
Put a cap on private rent costs.
Ban vulture funds buying houses.
Make social housing available to all demographics regardless of background, income etc.
Maybe stop the corrupt government/corrupt landlords from doing illegal evictions to put foreign nationals in to make more money. There’s your answer. Before I get down voted again, my home area has 0 properties for rent right now. Why? Housing foreign nationals is more profitable for them.
160,000 vacant properties on the island. Could house all of our homeless with 10% of that. Is there not some scheme that incentivises owners of those properties to sell to the council or state for social housing or emergency accommodation? Blows my mind. We should be bringing the country to a standstill until meaningful action is taken.
This is designed to be this way. Make no mistake. Normalising this allows the cost of housing to stay high. That’s the goal. That’s why vulture funds love this place.
