“unlikely” seems a mild statement for a completely crazy idea

Having the word “unlikely” in this conversation is really psychedelic, to be honest. In a normal world, you would expect them to 100% disregard this talk , but then again, they’re not really normal.

The problem is the US Congress relinquished too much power to the executive branch since wwii. US presidents can easily basically wage wars now without Congressional approval as long as they don’t call it a war.

That’s hilarious to think they will have a say in the matter. The Constitution is more like suggestions these days.

I feel like anytime i go out in a limb to defend democrats someone says something like this that shows that outside of a few key figures (like booker and aoc) they don’t really understand the seriousness of the historical moment. Like they will freak out in fundraising emails but they don’t really see us “actually” in the early stages of a full fascist takeover

Both chambers of congress is currently controlled by the Republican party (Trump’s party). They say unlikely, because they are unsure if Republican’s in congress would cave to pressure and support the invasion. This statement was made by a Democrat. The subtext is, “There is mo way in hell my party would support this, but we can only HOPE that the other side has dignity enough to tell Trump No.”

Clearly, if announced today it seems unlikely. But what about in 3 years?

The idea of a US invasion of Greenland is highly unlikely, with congressional support for such action being virtually nonexistent, and recent discussions focus more on strategic interests and negotiations rather than invasion plans. Greenland’s geopolitical importance is recognized, but current US policy emphasizes diplomacy and potential acquisition through negotiations rather than military force.

Please take note: They are still talking about it like it’s a legitimate thing to discuss in the US Congress.
This is how you make your population familiar with the idea.

“I don’t believe that there is real bipartisan support in the Congress to aggressively move on Greenland,” Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, the leader of the Democrats in the House of Representatives, told reporters on April 25 during a visit by members of Congress.”

We haven’t had an actual declaration of war since Korea. So, the president could act with relative impunity and there’s little Congress could do until after the fact.
If the headline isn’t vehemently opposed and would impeach/remove Trump, it’s meaningless.

In OSINT terminology, ‘unlikely’ indicates a probability in the range of 25-35%.
This is way too high for a supposed ally.
