39 years is not that long ago
Look at how much the radiation has degraded this picture, there’s barely any pixels left
Tenements still standing
I was 13 at the time and thought we were all going to die from the radioactive cloud heading westwards.
How about a picture taken in the summer? Lets see how terrible it looks in the summer.
39 years later and a lot of Chernobyl-like reactors still under operation.
It was not only a technogenic disaster; it was a catastrophe of the entire pseudo-communist system. By hiding the truth, creating the impression that nothing serious had happened, and suppressing any statistics that revealed rising cancer rates, they condemned countless people to death.
Nobody’s said it yet so I’ll do it.
Chornobyl
Today I learned that Ukraine prefers that we call it by their spelling “Chornobyl” instead of the russian-derived “Chernobyl”, which i can understand.
