Russia wants to leave Ukraine an economically bereft rump state. They don’t need to invade Kyiv or control the entire country as long as they control the coastline and the most economically rich areas.
Any ceasefire will be a temporary break to rebuild their military and return in pursuit of that goal. They want to turn Odesa into Mariupol and seize all of Moldova altogether.
