In July 2023, Viktoria Roshchyna left on her last reporting trip in the Russian-controlled territories of Ukraine.

After the invasion of February 24, 2022, she was the only Ukrainian journalist to report from the occupied regions.

Her objective was to document the whereabouts of hundreds of Ukrainian civilians, illegally detained by the Russian authorities.

Until she too disappeared in one of those prisons.

*Le Monde*, with the Forbidden Stories network of journalists and 10 media partners, retraced the footsteps of her last trip behind the Russian lines.
