Having been in all these countries for an extended period of time, I have to say that in Bulgaria and Romania I have yelled loudly ‘WHAT ARE YOU THINKING’ when witnessing driver’s suicidal overtaking attempts. I’ve also seen pedestrians get hit.

What is the reason people drive this way? You’re not only endangering others, you’re also endangering yourself. I just don’t understand why the risk assessment in Romania is so different from Sweden. In Sweden I rarely witness dangerous overtaking (people don’t overtake much at all on secondary roads, except for the stupid tractor-branded BMWs and Volvos), while in some Eastern European countries it seems to be all they do.

After riding a motorcycle in France, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Luxembourg, Spain, Portugal and Cyprus (I’m from the UK), I cannot see how Portugal isn’t top.

Worst drivers I’ve come across. They even make the Italians look good. Three times in 20 years I’ve pulled over to “have it out with someone” who put my life in danger – two of these were within the first hour of riding in Portugal.

      What are Latvians doing?
The craziest thing there is the 3rd lane created on two lane roads, it is scary

Sweden has that 0 deaths goal no?

Admirable. No surprise they’re in first place.

We’d be well served to try and learn from them.

Speeding in Denmark risks car confiscated, hefty fine, loss of drivers license and possibly prison sentence.

… I genuinely think Italy is the most dangerous country in europe to drive – it’s just that italians are so used to it that they’re all top tier formula 1 drivers because all the bad ones are dead.
