Ciao gente! Grazie!!!

Don’t skip Dresden (you don’t need to overnight there, just do a day layover on your way to Prague), and take a detour to Bamberg & Rothenburg ob der Tauber.
Make a stop in Saxon Switzerland, right after Dresden.
Ideally you have 2 days there, but you can also see a lot in less time.
You’ll want to exit the Autobahn in Pirna (South-East of Dresden), take the smaller streets through some villages to [this ](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Bastei+parking+lot/@50.9735747,14.0314004,13z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x4709bb9d02b51753:0xff2ac30cdac8cc21!8m2!3d50.965996!4d14.0656754!16s%2Fg%2F11lfcrg3zv?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDQyNy4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D)location with an incredible view over the Elbe valley. If you have more time than just an extra 4h (but let’s say 24h), go on following the river upstream to Bad Schandau ([this ](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Parkplatz+Oberer+Elbkai/@50.9177381,14.1509457,17.25z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x4709a46d68a53569:0x251b4add45266b3!8m2!3d50.9182424!4d14.1481047!16s%2Fg%2F11g8pbyyng?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDQyNy4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D)here is a parking lot, but there are others, too). Walk through the small town (pick up some ice cream on the way and enjoy the small stores they have there) all the way to the [park tram station](https://www.google.com/maps/place/Bad+Schandau+Kurpark/@50.9210318,14.1580498,19.5z/data=!4m6!3m5!1s0x4709a413edb882f1:0x7d6a21f9e04e6e04!8m2!3d50.9211052!4d14.1580508!16s%2Fg%2F11c1599bqk?entry=ttu&g_ep=EgoyMDI1MDQyNy4xIKXMDSoASAFQAw%3D%3D). Then, take the only tram in Germany that runs through a national park, and simply enjoy the view. Once you feel like you’re in a nice spot, exit, and walk back on the so called [Flößersteig](https://www.komoot.com/highlight/3909973). It’s easy to find because there’s signs everywhere and there’s only one hiking trail along the small stream in that Kirnitzsch valley.
I once wrote an entire guide for some friends of mine who wondered what to do in and around Dresden. Drop me a DM if you’d like to read it.
Enjoy your trip!
When are you doing the trip? The weather and temperature makes quite a difference.
