21 anni fa, dieci paesi europei si unirono all’Unione europea, riunirsi finalmente con il resto dell’Europa. Non importa quanto possa essere imperfetta o perfetta la nostra unione, siamo orgogliosi!

I remember 20024…. that EU expansion was done too fast, to soon and to reckless. The EU lost its identity and is still struggling, has been weekend and is more irrelevant despite the size. Then came Romania and Bulgaria and shit hit the fan…

Back then I was part of an information and welcome campaign. It was such a positive time for Europe. The Union grew we talked about a European constitution.

We need that positivity and confidence back. We knew it would be a challenge to expand by 10/12 countries but it has paid off. Central Europe is so much more prosperous today.

The European Union is the greatest civilizational achievement, we just need to free ourselves from the influence of the USA and develop the military industry.

Ireland had been part of the EU since the 1970’s, have to say that 50 years of membership has done wonders for our country.

I hope our Eastern European neighbours already see the same massively positive transformations happening in their countries now.

Hope Canada can join the EU at some point as well. We share the same values, freedoms critical to human life are at the core of our ethos, and we believe in a conflict-free future with basic human rights taken care of. Love travelling to EU often and I’m enamoured by your love for life and food. We could do with some more of it here!

Thank fuck we’re in. Whatever issues the EU may have, generally I’m a big fan of it and it’s certainly led to a lot of prosperity and development here. We’re still some of the poorest in the EU but life is nevertheless a lot better than in the countries that are still trying to get in.

      Naive af optimism

Met loads of great friends from the CEE, loads of great experience with free travel and working over there. Yet look at any country from CEE, some decent infrastructure has been built and FDI has created some good employment in near shored operations of international companies, that said, an economic bomb still looks like it hit outside the capitals and tourist areas.

Still huge pushes to emigrate west continues, massive gentrification since Covid , rents are pushing eastern euros to move home again , wages as stagnant as ever outside key industries , culturally massive divides fragmenting European political consensus , western companies eat up local supermarket, transport chains… etc and cartel the market

Integrating countries with vastly different economic developments and cultural values to a one size fits all model was always going lead to this stagnation . Luckly though, some Western EU countries due to domestic policies are stagnating even more than CEE counterparts that places certain cities in Poland are more livable than England now.

I hate only one thing about it… Them implementing veto instead of 2/3 vote.

How was Europe back then? I remeber people were happy to join for the union. “Now we can work, study and travel to other countries! Yay!” And now its just “another eu dorective? Wtf? This is not what we signed for!”
