      1) get rid of the czar shyte. This isn’t the USA.

      2) we already have someone responsible for housing and provision of same. His name is James Browne and he’s the minister for housing, local government and heritage.

      i am yet to hear or read about a valid reason we even need a housing tzar. it makes no sense unless its just as a patsy to blame when targets arent met.

      Really though the issues with housing are government policy. Hiring a pricey civil servant isn’t going to help if he’s not writing legislation.

      Instead of this American shite of Housing Czar, how about we shorten the name of Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage to just Department of Housing, so everyone can just keep saying DOH for all the fuck ups.

      Who was meant to increase the housing stock? DOH!

      He wasn’t the right man for the role, nor is our current housing minister. We don’t need more can kicking and delays, we need action from the heart of government across all departments involved to sort this shit out before it drags us deep into the 80s again.

      This will not be a popular statement, but I believe it is factual. A person with McDonagh’s CV is going to be able to get a job paying 400K plus in the private sector (be it in Ireland or abroad). And he’ll be able to get it without having to sit in front of opposition TDs on TV and be made to say I’m worth it.

      This is so silly. He’s a professional who knows the housing market intimately and who was able to spin up a massive and successful operation in NAMA. And all ended over some nonsense about terms and conditions. Terms and conditions that are not too dissimilar to what a single hospital consultant would earn. We’ll end up paying peanuts, getting monkeys, and talking a year longer now …
