The guy was a pediatric nurse
A probation report found he was at medium risk of reoffending. Giving him credit for his guilty plea and co-operation, Judge O’Callaghan jailed him for two years and six months on the most serious count of producing child abuse material. He then suspended the final year on strict conditions.On the remaining two counts of possession and distribution, he was sentenced to one year each, with both suspended in full.
‘Depraved’ child abuse offenses, and works in an area with vulnerable children, medium risk of re-offending and the judge gives him only two years and six months.
If they’re a non-national and they commit child sex offense or/and they represent a medium risk of re-offending, surely we should be deporting them once their prison sentence is done?!
How in the name of all that’s holy is a paedophile who went out of his way to find a job that gave him exceptional levels of access to the most vulnerable children, and who was in possession of child porn, only considered at “medium” risk of re-offending? Like, this guy didn’t volunteer for the cub scouts or coach GAA, he spent years in medical school specifically to get a job where he’d have access to sick and vulnerable children.
Also, a year suspended sentence for the porn basically means he got away with it. Here’s a pro tip when reading these sort of articles, every time you see “suspended sentence”, you can replace that with “the Judge told him/her not to do it again and let them off with a warning”.
Jail, then deport.
