Couldn’t they just have left out Ireland, they way they left out the rest of the world?

Nothing that includes Ireland as part of “The British Isles” will be considered right by the majority here

Still not ‘right’ – It’s called Ireland

The right way to do it is to just not use the term “British Isles”.
Also, while we’re being pedantic, the country is called “Ireland” not “Republic of Ireland”.

Avoid the term “British Isles”, use “Britain and Ireland” instead

I really wouldn’t mind this term if they called it “The British and Irish Isles” geographically and politically more accurate.

The Irish and UK Goverments call them “These Islands”.
What should the rest of the world call them? “Those islands”
(Also this image is wrong on multiple levels).

Ireland is not in the British isles. No more than France is.
As a side note, while the Channel Islands are in the British isles, there are many nowadays trying to claim that they’re not.
It’s part of the effort to keep Ireland in. Ireland can only continue to be in the British isles if the asinine claim “it’s a purely geographical term” is supported. And since the Channel Islands are clearly geographically part of France, their membership of the British Isles has to be denied. Bizarre, but that’s what people are at.

Funny Story: A couple of months ago I was on the bus browsing Today I Learned, and there was a post about something that casually used “British Isles” in the title.
Without really thinking about it I posted a comment saying a lot of us don’t like using that name/term
I got off the bus and didn’t think much about it, but when I checked back later I’d gotten a ton of downvotes – like sixty or eighty or something.
I remember thinking that I’d underestimated how strongly people feel.
I looked at my comment carefully and I saw that the fucking autocorrect on my phone had somehow made me say
“ a lot of people don’t like that gay term”

A couple of problems here;
1. Neither the Irish or British governments use the term British Isles and it’s a disputed name that should not be used as the Isles are not British.
2. There are two jurisdictions on the Island of Ireland. Ireland and Northern Ireland. The name of the southern state is Ireland.

What is “The British Isles”? I don’t recognise the term

No no, ffs, no.
Ireland is an island. On that island is the independent state of Ireland and Northern Ireland, which is a constitutent country of the state known as The United Kingdom of I Don’t Care What They Call Themselves.
The point being this country is called Ireland. Not fucking the Republic of Ireland. Not fucking Southern Ireland. Not fucking Eire, you fucks, unless you’re speaking in Irish. Ireland.
Among other things wrong the isle of Anglesey is also not on that map.

This has to be trolling, do people not know the name of their own country?
>Constitution of Ireland ARTICLE 4:
The name of the State is Éire, or, in the English language, Ireland.
(no, the Republic of Ireland act didn’t change this, or make Ireland a republic for that matter. A simple act of the oireachtas wouldn’t have the power to do those thing, even if that were what the act actually said)
