      I think I have more sympathy for the struggles that small and medium sized Irish businesses face compared to much of this sub from what it seems because they are crucial to the economy and it is difficult but the apathy towards them only grows when you see shite like this blaming the minimum wage.

      If a business pays minimum wage remember that what they are saying is that the only reason they aren’t paying you less, is because they legally can’t.

      Minimum wage for 40 hours work should match the living wage.

      Definitely been tough for businesses dealing with such a substantial rise in 5 years but calling for an indefinite pause is a bit rogue

      Incredible how they go on and on about the increased costs of everything under the sun but can’t follow that logic through and consider what it must be like for the people they’re paying the bare minimum trying to get by.

      Well ye. Keep increasing minimum wage non stop, then have to increase non-minimum wage also.

      And of course the price of products / services has to rise. As small businesses would not be able to make any profit otherwise. Cause salaries is only part of it. And if there is no profit there is no business.

      But most people can’t think that far…

      They government already paused the implementation of the living wage until 2029-breaking a promise *after* they won the election. AND they once again delayed the rollout of pension auto enrollment.

      This retail body needs to fuck off.

      Minimum wage. Employers are saying “We would like to pay you less but we can’t. This is the bare minimum we are allowed to pay you.”

      Let’s put this in some perspective in 2008 I got E8.65 now I get E13.50 so in 17 years I have a E4.85 pay rise. In 17 fucking years not even five ffying euro difference. So yeah it has gone up some in last 5 years but I rather the focus was over 17 when us low paid workers took the hit like everyone else. But unlike alot of other sectors we are still being fucked over

      Ok, how about we talk about capping price increases on utilities, CEO bonuses and profits on companies too?

      How about we talk about how expensive rent is country wide?

      It always annoys me that its always workers targeted first but its heresy to talk about parasite shareholders earn less.

      Maybe they should put a pause on the upper management bonuses, might make it easier to pay regular people ♥️

      Do you notice these retail groups never call for pause in rent hikes, energy price gouging etc but their first go to is to attack the minimum wage?

      People against increasing minimum answer this, where is someone on minimum wage supposed to live? What’s the actual point of working if you can’t afford a home, a holiday and some money to enjoy on days off?
