n evangelical Christian group whose leadership has branded Ireland “a toleration nation” on LGBT rights and whose founder has described abortion as “murder” is trying to recruit members from universities around the capital.

The Dublin International Christian Church became active here in late 2023, becoming one of more than 130 churches set up worldwide by the ICC in the past 18 years. An analysis of the group’s social media posts and sermons reveals that its leadership has made a number of contentious statements about LGBT issues and Islam, as well as other social issues.

The Dublin ICC’s membership includes young adults and its recruitment efforts involve reaching out to this demographic through its social media output, as well as events that blend social and spiritual activities.

The church’s output on social media across YouTube and Instagram showcases a mix of slick and snappy, often humorous, videos intermingled with strident religious pronouncements made with reference to scripture that touch on the meaning of faith and tackle contemporary social issues, including “vices” such as masturbation or drugs and alcohol. Some of its posts on Instagram feature “dance devotionals” or preaching on public transport.

These people are bizzare. Evangelical churches usually put a lot of emphasis on the bible as the source of truth. If they’d really read the thing they’d see there’s a high likelihood that if Jesus came back next week (and they’re certain he’ll come back ) then it would probably be an asylum seeker, a trans person or someone else on the margins. Honestly can’t imagine what’s going on in their little heads. Not suprised though : listened to a podcast someone recommended recently from two men from ‘gript media’ in Ireland recently who kept talking about their earnest Christianity and spent the rest of their time punching down hard. Fucked up.

This is odd timing with all the stuff happening with the mosque being shutdown recently.

Hopefully it’s stamped out. They’re responsible for the rise of anti intellectualism in the states.

I’m more worried about what’s going on in Clonskeagh to be honest.

If I had a nickel every time fundamentalist churches were mentioned today I’d have two nickels, which isn’t much but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Where are all the concerned secularists from this morning’s locked mosque thread?

      Strange that.
