Sinead O’Connor. ♡

Absolutely a fan. She made some mad decisions but her point was nearly always right.
Some singer too.
Mandinka at 1989 Grammys was epic.
I’ll confess I wasn’t a massive fan of her music but I was very much a fan of her as a person. That open letter to Miley Cyrus; while it was a little disjointed at times it was absolutely bang on about the evils facing young women in the music industry.
Fan!! Only know one song, but love her feminism and strength for calling out bullshit. The iconic moment of her ripping the poster of the pope, I think is when I grew to love her. I was so young, I didnt know anything about the abuse but I absolutely loved how fearless she was and that demonstration proved we absolutely can and should question everything.
Brave, fierce woman. And a generational talent musically as well. Sinéad was a special person.
I think when it came to her first speaking out and the huge backlash it brought now, I want to be clear. I’m not saying everyone did this, and I’m not saying this is an excuse
But I believe A LOT of people, espicaly in Ireland, were not ready to face the reality of the evil the Church did leading up to this moment I think a lot of people really struggled with the idea that what Sinead was saying was even possible and of course some of the angry people either colluded with the church or turned a blind eye to what was going on and some felt deep shame for their role in it and then anger that she was bringing this up because In brutal reality what Sinead said was something a lot of people had thought about but you don’t dare such things out loud in public EVER is the mindset a lot of society had at that time
So that’s really where Sinead came into this in a very big way she was probably the first mainstream person in Ireland to so openly talk about this
I live that pic of Kris Kristofferson standing up for her while she was being booed onstage. She was right about everything! Brave woman.
She had a great voice & wrote some good sings. A better singer than singer/songwriter, so sang a lot of others songs. A very determined woman, with strong views & a public voice, which she used. However, she had real mental health issues, which affected herself & those around her. She was no saint, despite the many forays into religion. Really quite a tortured individual & sad how her life turned out. It is disingenuous to ignore the sadness & darkness in her life, although through her voice she brought light to many. RIP.
Since her passing it’s finally dawned on me that Sinead was a true artist of our time.
Once-in-a-generation voice and in the pantheon of the great Irish musicians.
While musically I didn’t always like some of her work, she always determinedly followed her own creative and personal path.
As an iconoclast, a genuine rebel and a person of heartfelt principle who spoke up for the marginalised in society, she should always be given huge respect.
