I tend to do it – but not at a exegerated speed. If I casually am overtaking the other car. I don’t really see a problem in this. I don’t think the police have issues with that either.
No, you can’t! I know this section and I know people are always driving on the wrong lane, but you cannot overtake on the right here! 😊
“they are not allowed to move over” why do you think that? Both people on the left as to your right have an ‘onderbroken lijn’ so can move lanes
Purely traffic law based: no. But then there’s real life and people hogging those middle lanes 😅
I don’t think you’re allowed, those on the left are supposed to move to the right to give others the chance to overtake but, knowing our Belgian drivers, they’ll probably still be there 10 km further
Can is easy enough. Just be quicker 🙂
Picture makes it a bit tricky as it’s from the middle lane. So let’s say from left to right it’s: 3 – 2B – 2A – 1. You’re talking about lane 1 and I would also say you’re allowed to either speed up or slow down to merge safely (as long as you’re not over the speed limit).
If you’re not speeding (over the speed limit) I wouldn’t see a reason for a ticket by passing on the right.
The other driver should not keep driving on the left lane.
Waarom kun je niet gewoon op uw gemak op de snelweg zitten ? Waarom moet iedereen altijd sneller dan een ander rijden. Tegen lagere snelheid kom je er ook.
No, but if people are driving slowly in the left lane with nobody blocking them from moving over, I overtake on the right. They had their chance.
Actually, It seams contraproductive but in fact you can, by passing the car from the left side, and then move back to your lane (over the full line)

Not allowed.
You’re not allowed to overtake here.
You’re also not allowed to use swearwords so…. Yeah
Your question/description is confusing
Are u talking about going to the roght and thus crossing the white line or going straight overtaking the left cars on the right
I’d say if there’s dense traffic and both lanes are used by a few cars, then it’s not illegally overtaking on the right if you just keep your speed and pass by. Similarly in a traffic jam the right lane won’t wait for the left lane to move along. At which point is the traffic dense enough to do that? I can’t tell you.
Yes, you may pass the car on your left side, if you stay in your lane
Depends on the car. With BMW you can overtake.
The law says you are only allowed to overtake on the right “if traffic moves in multiple files” (in verschillende files, letterlijk)
But then the law does not state what a “file” is exactly. (How many cars/how slow/.. nothing)
So if the rightmost lane is its own “file” (which is kina like a “row”) then I would say you are allowed to overtake the slower cars if you’re driving on it.
If you’re still waiting for an answer, don’t do it
EDIT Since I can’t seem to edit the original post.
I should have clarified that this picture is from streetview, and the scenario I’m talking about is that I am in the right-most lane, not the second lane as pictured…
If you’re already on the right, and driving the speed limit, you are allowed to pass them on the right. It is technically not overtaking as you didn’t change lanes and are just following the traffic rules (like the speed limit).
Your description very unclear because you seem to be discribing a different scenario than shown on the image. You say the cars on the left are not allowed to move over. But the cars on the image can switch one lane if they can be bothered too.
If you’re coming from the Ring (coming from Antwerpen Oost/Noord) on the **right lane of the two middle lanes** (the third lane on the image), **you cannot overtake** the idiots who keep driving on the left (the second lane) even if the right lane (third lane) is free.
If you are coming from the **rightmost lane** (coming from Antwerpen West/Kennedy tunnel), **you can** overtake everyone (though within the speed limit please). This is exactly the reason why the new lines were drawn, since most trucks come from Antwerpen Noord/Oost and tried to switch to the rightmost lane as fast as possible, resulting in hindrance and accidents.
The new lines have made going through the the Craeybecxtunnel much better and easier in my opinion, but for some reason the different kinds of lines seem to confuse people.

I know the fine for overtaking on the wrong side is now less than the fine of driving on the wrong side..so make the violation and point fingers if they catch you, at least make em pay aswel!
Why is this even a question?
It easy:
I think ur question here is about the right lane (lane 1) in this 4 way lane? Lets say lane 1 is totaly on the right lane up to 4 to the left lane. So jn this picture is 4-3-2-1. The one coming from “antwerp zuid” joining the E19 to Brussels is lane 1 here.
You CAN overtake people from lane 2-3-4 in lane 1 IF you started from lane 1, so coming from antwerp zuid. Bcs they cannot move over from lane 2-3-4 to lane 1, bcs its a seperate lane. You can just drive at max speed (100km/u) and overtake slower cars from the right in lane 1. But when the white solid line is over (after the tunnel) you are not allowed to pass them on the right and you need to move over to the left.
BUT you CAN NOT move from lane 2 to 1 to pass them from the right because you cross a full with line. So if you come from Antwerp noord joining E19 to Brussels you come in lane 2-3. You can only overtake them like normal on the left.
Also when comming from Antwerp zuid and in lane 1 is someone slow, you need to move over to line 2 to obertake bht can not move back to lane 1.
Hope this is clear 😅
No, you can never overtake on the right
Depending on traffic density it will be allowed to overtake via right lane
Lol, the difference of opinion here explains everything I need to know about why belgian roads suck to drive on. I love living here but damn the roads are a shit show
If I’m not mistaken, you must always drive as right as possible. If you need to overtake, you must do it from the left hand side, in any scenario, when allowed.
If you don’t change lanes it’s not an overtaking manouver, which means your lane is just moving faster than the others.
Seems fairly obvious to me with the markings that you can’t exit the center lane to overtake someone slow in front of you, that’s why you have a solid line. Conversely, you are obviously permitted to cross into the center lane if you’re driving in the right lane because the line is dashed. This isn’t my county, but I don’t imagine these particular markings have a different meaning than where I live.
Solid line= you can’t switch to this lane however those already on the most right lane can move over to the left as they have the dotted lines.
For sure you can, since the second lane is not allowed to cross the full line it takes away the hazard of them “not expecting you there” anyway.
I always pass on the right here , the left lanes are not allowed to go to the right lane due to the full white line so i dont see why you would not be allowed to overtake on the right
