It’s a puff piece for a few different places, but basically:

      – Plan your shopping

      – Keep a load of bread in the freezer

      – Know the difference between use by and best by

      – Use tinned foods, especially beans, veg and fish.

Typical bank holiday padding article. Zero effort and zero new information. Would say it was chatgpt filler but it feels like it has probably been sitting in the “Might use sometime” folder since the current cost of living crisis started over 3 years ago

Because everything is buys seems to come in 3’s and 5’s, meaning that when I usually use 2 or 4 of said item the remainder goes off and gets tossed.

It is really difficult not to waste food because almost everything is sold in bulk packaging “for convenience”… convenience of the retailer. Even more so if you are single, and they produce so much packaging waste even when trying to be *green*.

The biggest change I made was going local. I buy my meat and fish from the local butcher/fishmonger and my veg from the greengrocer (who also sells “dry goods” so I can buy rice/beans etc by the amount I want rather than having to buy big bags of the stuff only for it to sit in the cupboard for a year).

It may be a little more expensive, depending on what I buy, but if you account for what I was buying, not using and eventually throwing out, the cost is probably the same, and the veg is much cheaper and of much better quality.

Eat healthy. Get at least five portions of fruit and veg a day. But don’t buy food in plastic. Don’t buy food when you can’t finish it. Don’t even think about berries because half them will be mushy the day after you buy them.
