I think the inflation we got was fairly evident myself.
They mustn’t be too smart whoever came to that conclusion.

I just walked past several derelict buildings that are only recently shut up in my town. May not be the case in Dublin but in rural Ireland, even where I am in south Kildare, it’s fairly evident
So, the government have investigated themselves and found that they did nothing wrong and indeed did a great job. Never mind the all the inflation, I guess.

Of course there’s no direct impact 5 years on but there were very real impacts to over zealous lockdown measures at the time which impacted those people living through it disproportionately. But there was no alternative? Open up, more people die, stay closed, impact more people psychologically. One of the biggest problems with prolonging lockdown was it gave people a flavour of an alternative way of living and then once things opened up, it was back to depressing business as usual. But this was a global thing and more a criticism of neverending economic growth than Irish policy.

This is wild chicken roles are 8 quid, also service in hospitality is gone shite.
Everything costs a bomb, layoffs are creeping up, and shops are closing down all over the local shopping centre, but ‘the economy’ is doing fantastic.
Who does that benefit again?
I don’t particularly buy this. It’s not difficult to point to a few factors and claim that there was no change while ignoring anything that goes against the narrative. That being said,

If your take home pay hasn’t gone up by 20% since the start of the Pandemic, you are on average in a worse position that you had been five years prior. Is that not an insane statistic?

This is perhaps even more insane. According to the statistics from 2022, over 75% of the population of the Republic are native Irish, but the growth of the economy is being primarily pushed by non-Irish? What you have here is a Government importing in people from other countries to “boost” the economy, increasing the supply of labour which will have the effect of preventing wages from rising when necessary.
And this isn’t even getting into the social impacts or the impacts the Pandemic had on people’s mental health
Really? Inflation through the roof. Energy prices soaring well above European averages [and still rising while prices within Europe are dropping, insurance prices are also going up.
Either this author is very wealthy to not notice all this or is lying.

Inflations fucked, hospitality industry is one bad week away from implosion, tourism keeps dropping year on year since before covid despite the country being much more in the spotlight than before, and basically destroying a four year age range’s chances for an average time college that builds the groundworks for people they’ll know the rest of their lives, making them more likely to move abroad
The Energy prices only started to go up after Russia invaded Ukraine. In fully convinced most of these companies price gouged too.
