Daniel Kovalchuk "Il francese".

Possa riposare in pace. Heroyam Slava!

On the evening of May 3, a representative of the Dynamo fan movement, an Armed Forces serviceman, Daniel Kovalchuk, with the call sign “Frenchman,” died of cardiac arrest. He was one of the founders of the Morana team unit of the 47th separate mechanized brigade.

This was reported on May 5 by the soldier’s friends on social media, as well as the press service of the Dynamo football club and the Grunt publication.

Daniel Kovalchuk has been an active member of Dynamo’s fan base since 2012. With the beginning of the Russian aggression in 2014, he joined the 3rd Company of the 2nd Battalion of the Azov Regiment, where he participated in the Shyrokyne operation.

After leaving the service, “Frenchman” developed in the field of personal protection and became an expert in practical pistol shooting.

In 2019, together with one of the leaders of the Dynamo Kyiv fan movement, Armed Forces soldier Maksym “Rugbyman” Yalovtsov, who died in the fall of 2022 while performing a combat mission, he launched the Civil Safety Academy project, teaching hundreds of people how to work with weapons.

In 2020, Daniel and Maksym opened the Civil Safety Academy, a large shooting range on the left bank of Kyiv.

After the start of the full-scale invasion on February 24, 2022, The Frenchman and The Rugby Player created a volunteer unit based at CSA that participated in the defense of the capital.

On March 20, 2022, Daniel Kovalchuk was seriously injured in a missile attack.

      Learning to walk again.

Less than a year after being wounded, “Frenchman” recovered and created a 47th Brigade Morana Team unit that specialized in FPV drones and operated effectively in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka areas.

Quotes by Daniel “The Frenchman” Kovalchuk

      About the war

“This horror will end one day. Those who survive it will return to their previous lives with a sense of their own heroism and a just desire to be respected in society. War is a place where everything is simple and everything is real. Such an atmosphere forms a new outlook on human qualities and principles of life, this format of everyday life changes you, but, unfortunately, does not change those who are left out of the main events,” wrote The Frenchman on his Instagram.

On the importance of the Ukrainian language

“The Ukrainian language is not just words. It is the memory of generations, it is our code, it is what makes us special. When you are far away from home and suddenly hear Ukrainian, it’s like meeting someone close to you. Language is independence.”

Could’ve stopped fighting after being injured… nah just kept on fighting for his country instead.

That is true love for your country. For all the civilians being killed. He fought to stop it. To stop the innocent from being wiped out.
