      >Negative effects of excessive smartphone use

      >Over the past 10 years, numerous scientific articles have been published on the impact of social media and digital technologies on the mental and physical health of children and young people. For example, there is an increase in depression, anxiety disorders, obesity, learning problems and sleep disorders due to smartphone use in young people.

      >The experts also notice that. Steven Laureys is a neurologist: “We now know that excessive use of those screens and social media is going to overstimulate our brain and that leads to distraction rather than focus and that can give attention disorders in children.”

      >“It can disrupt our sleep and a good quality of sleep is just very important in children. It also has an impact on our emotional networks. We are social animals and the internet and social media can connect, but if it becomes too much virtual, then that is negative again. Children just have to play in the real world with their friends.”

      >Neuropsychiatrist Theo Compernolle also supports 100 percent of this initiative: “Children are interrupted by their phone in everything they do. It happens up to 80 times a day. That constantly being interrupted in all activities, you get a ‘cruculling brain’. As a result, people are no longer able to keep their attention continuously on one task. This is not only about the studies, but also about, for example, enjoying things. You never do that with the full 100 percent.”

If only we had a government that truly served the people, I could believe in a policy like this.
Otherwise, I feel like this is just going to be a PATRIOT act style of control on the people.
