French authorities said Wednesday they had tracked nearly 80 disinformation campaigns led by Russian operators between August 2023 and early March 2025, mainly targeting Ukraine and its allies, including France.
The estimate by the French agency countering foreign online attacks, Viginum, said the campaign was “particularly… effective in distributing anti-Ukrainian and anti-Western narratives to Western audiences”.
The so-called “Storm-1516” campaign uses artificial intelligence to create realistic profiles, pays amateur operators, and poses a “significant threat to the digital public debate, both in France and across all European countries,” the agency said.
“The European public debate is being pounded by disinformation campaigns conducted by Russian entities and relayed especially by the American far-right,” said French Foreign Minister Jean-Noel Barrot in a statement to AFP, adding that Russian entities had targeted the French legislative elections of 2024.

Many people perceive such information as “just another news item about something remote somewhere”, but the information campaigns of authoritarian states are serious and have a real impact on societies and our future.
I don’t know what policies should be implemented to minimise the consequences of disinformation by Russia and other states, but the hybrid war against the EU is serious

Aw that’s cute France. Look at them thinking there are only dozens of disinformation campaigns from Russia. Putin sneezes a dozen disinformaiton campaigns for breakfast. The real news here is why are France only able to identify that few of them?

Europe needs to start showing their citizens which stories are driven by misinformation. It’s all well and good to keep telling us we’re being lied to, but it’s hard to point out which narratives are pushed by Russia and which are actually driven by societal demand.
When narratives are found to have a focused Russian origin, they need to be labelled as such as widely as possible. I’ve heard of numerous stories that originate from 5 or 6 Kremlin-led propaganda social media accounts that have gained traction in common discussion around Ukraine. The narratives need highlighting. We already know what Russia is doing.

Water is wet. They also do assassinations, sabotage and subversion, cyber attacks against critical infrastructure, banks, government websites, etc. Influence campaigns directed at vulnerable figures in key positions, such as politicians. They target critics of russia abroad and have actually murdered them in the past. Election interference, bribery of officials, etc. Sabotage, with agents or “locally hired talent”, where they pay a pittance for someone to say, burn down a power station. Then there’s their “shadow fleet” of civilian ships full of spying gear that goes around the norwegian coast and UK. Oh and the civilian ships they use to sabotage undersea cables.
What else. Airspace violations. Nuclear threats. The multiple instances of assassination via poisons. All the reporters Russia has murdered inside Russia that got too close to revealing stuff about Putins past and his money, corruption and murders. And how he actually cemented his power after the 1999 apartment bombings, which quite possibly were the handiwork of FSB, instead of the chechens that got blamed for them. Almost a dozen journalists, authors, diplomats and key people surrounding the case have been murdered or have “committed suicide”. Probably in the same vein that current Russian industry leaders and opponents to Putins rule keep falling out of windows to this day.
Then there’s the whole illegal invasion of a sovereign nation of Ukraine. The hundreds of thousands of killed and injured Russians that they’ve just thrown into the meatgrinder. The warcrimes committed in this war by Russian Forces and their mercenaries. The countless more dead ukrainians who just died protecting their home from this barbaric attack.
Russia as a state has ALWAYS been a Cunt. To it’s neighbours and often even to it’s own people. Their leaders are all cunts and Putin is the head cunt. That sociopathic mafioso wannabe tsar piece of shit deserves to die all the deaths that he’s responsible for.
Edit: I forgot. Using migrants as a weapon and a tool to pressure other nations.
