Ciao a tutti,

Come ti senti personalmente riguardo a FICO oggi?

Grazie in anticipo a chiunque condivida i propri pensieri. Apprezzo davvero il tuo tempo.

In this sub you will get mostly this: we hate Fico. We been hating him for a years, even decades. His supporters would feel like what you wrote, as he totally divided the country. Just a wannabe Trump/Putin.

I think there was opinion polling in Slovakia on similar topic (his leaning more in the east than on west) and about 60% was against and 40% support that. Here on reddit most of the people hate the guy, and realise that he is dragging Slovakia out from democracy and from our democratic allies, into autocracy. Slovaks, in majority, still are pro-EU and even pro-NATO, but Fico realise that his electorate has strong russian sentiment from comunnist era, and he is exploiting that.

He’s a demented wanna be dictator, Russia is not a democratic country, they can’t even protest without being jailed/persecuted, so they will be not changing anytime soon. Overall how should we feel about an aggressor who kills civilians, starts a war and lies about everything to everyone.

    5. He’s a corrupt motherfucker who ruined this country for 12+ years.

He is a national disgrace, this is how every informed and democratic citizen of Slovakia feels about that piece of crap.

      In two words? Very angry.
He is a traitor along with the part of the public which is retarded enough to support him.
This trip is another act of high treason.

I think I understand what he’s trying to do, but I don’t think it’s going to work. If anything it will hurt the country

    9. Fuck Robert Fico.
Incompetent idiot who pretends to be smart, but is used by pretty much anybody just for personal gain.
Coward and idiot. But he has political thinking. His only advantage.

    10. Ashamed, he is a national traitor and always will be in history viewed as bad as Tiso, Bilak, Husak, Meciar and others were.

Regarding Fico and his visits to Moscow and his relationship with Russia, I feel deeply ashamed as a Slovak. Every time he does something pro-russian I write to western embassies on social media apologising. I dont want foreign countries to think that all the Slovaks think like him.

      Here’s my take:
Fico does not stand for anything or anybody other than himself. His voter base loves being hijacked towards Russia, so he’s putting on a big show of taking us there even though he he is really trying to play all the sides. The sentiment towards Russia that has been propagated through social media since about 2014 through hybrid warfare and which has been built upon nostalgia after “good ol’ days of socialism”.

This sentiment has greatly influenced our politics mainly towards right-wing extremism and populism, but it has actually taken voters from Fico before 2020. Fico has realized that he cannot compete in this environment unless he licks the Russian boot too because he can win putinophiles, eurosceptics and natosceptics easily with empty rhetoric while the more sofisticated voter will require some actual policy, which he is not able to deliver. Therefore Fico has bet on more guaranteed voter – a conspiracy theory nut.

Fico and his aligned oligarchs are very mixed in their practical alignment. On the one hand they have an interest to keep Russian oil and gas flowing, on the other hand they have the interest in keeping commercial production of ammunition for Ukraine and Western arms contracts. The thing is Fico does not really believe in anything, he only does what is popular with his base or what benefits him.

However, people have pointed out that the West and our allied countries are actually quite tired of this behaviour and are losing tolerance for it. They’ve been excluding us from the talks and tables because they do not know how to predict his behaviour as it seems his interests do not align with theirs. This is how he’s harming the country’s reputation. We are not big enough, nor influential enough to perform these kinds of stunts. It could be very dangerous in the current global environment to become a small country with no real allies.

Nothing would please me more than seeing this corrupt turd in a suit swing for his crimes.

Fico is the only politician in Slovakia that havent betrayed interests of Slovak citizens for the sake of money from Soros NGO’s and a little petting from the leaders of the axis of “liberal” fascism movement. He and his policies are the wall protecting us from the flood of culturally incomopatible migrants, protecting us from the woke propaganda, protecting us from the most brutal forms of capitalism, where old, sick and weak are left without any protection of the society. OP, you need to understand, that this Slovakia subreditt is overcrowded by the member of the oposition and its supporters, therefore picture you will make about real public oppinions towards Robert Fico are highly negatively biased here. Elections, that are regularly won by Fico are the the real sample of nation’s opinion about Fico.

Useless re*ard, just like his voters. But we knew that before.

Slovakia is still supplying Ukraine with large quantities of ammunition and other weapons—albeit strictly on a commercial basis—while also providing substantial humanitarian aid. Prime Minister Robert Fico has expressed genuine interest in good relations with Kyiv and has already held several successful meetings with Ukrainian Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal.

Tensions flared, however, when President Zelenskyy’s administration (contrary to Shmyhal’s earlier assurances) attempted to halt Russian energy transit through Ukraine. Both Slovakia and Ukraine earn significant fees from that pipeline, so Bratislava now views Kyiv as an unreliable neighbour.

Fico also weighs Slovakia’s geopolitical position—wedged between Western Europe and Ukraine. He hears endless talk of a “coalition of the willing” but sees few concrete actions, while Ukraine’s military situation grows ever more desperate. His government therefore insists on a *plan B*: keep channels open to Moscow in case Russia achieves a breakthrough in Ukraine or even overpowers Poland and the Scandinavian coalition.

In short, Slovakia continues to support Ukraine with robust, paid‑for arms shipments, yet simultaneously preserves workable relations with Russia. It may not be idealistic, but for a small country in a dangerous neighbourhood it is, at the moment, the only pragmatic course.
