“In the town with a high rate of immigration from Bangladesh, the mayor opts for the hard line: “They reported sick to us”. And he defends himself: “It’s not racism, it’s common sense”. On the web ironies and accusations: “Who will establish what stinks and what doesn’t?” – The Mayor of Palma Campania
ok Swedes, who of you had a Surströmming stall?
Just normal curry? Then I don’t get it.
It’s not cooked surströmming in a delicate Durian-Handkäse sauce.
Far right Mayor I assume ?
Article in Italian….so is this a curry ban looking at the image ?
A city of camorra, but they forbid foreign food…
Paywall!
Oh boy that’s the most racist shit I’ve seen all day.
Das racist
The Limburger cheese festival was too much? Or was it the Rise of the Lutefisk parade?
I initially thought he was ordering a ban on foreign food based restaurants. But banning the food from the privacy of their own homes? That shit is on another level of racism.
I love all the flavours in our multicultural pot.
…mamma mia che figura di merda.
The irony of the tomato literally being a foreign food
Mamma mia! Tomata from America on-a my peet-sa is a-oke (we are-a white! Blanca!) But no Bangladesh-ia, per l’amor di Dio no no!!!
Most gastronomically open minded Italian.
Don’t pay the fines .
Good job
Banning foreign foods? What will they cook without tomatoes, potatoes, rice, and most spices?
So…. xenophobia?
Completely ridiculous, and I can’t even imagine that this is constitutional in Italy.
It makes sense to me.
Italy is such a weird country at times
This is one of the most Italian things I’ve ever heard
Would that not be breaching European human rights legislation, that essentially guarantees freedom of expression, one way of ‘expression’ would be to cook whatever you want?
for example we have all sorts of things that we can’t do because of EUHR law
And people still want to believe Italy isn’t racist anywhere at all…
There’s no way in hell that this can stand in court.
0%.
Italians being racist food snobs, who woulda thought?
Just guessing something indian region based
Why are Italians like this?
Japan has a thing called “smell harassment” where *any* smell in public is considered rude (not illegal). Banning foreign food though is a bit much.
the intellectual malnourishment displayed by that mayor is crazy
This “legislation” will easily be shut down by either Italian or EU regulations against discrimination and/or freedom of expression.
Imagine not being able to prepare the food you want inside your own, rightful accomodations. Fuck this guy. And good luck proving someone is cooking something he doesn’t want without a warrant to enter someone’s house.
Does that mean they could fine people that go out in public that dont bath and smell like swamp and sewage.
Im italian, i read the free part of the article. Just close your windows when you cook with an unimaginable quantity of spices. Its not racism, its living in a community. Free spaces are free for everyone and its not the right of anyone to flood piblic places with heavy odors. Just close the windows or use less spices idk. It is common sense and it should be true for everyone in every city
I feel like some people don’t realise they smell strongly of their foods too.
Bacon has a REALLY strong smell, so does most of the basis of Italian cuisine.
I find the smell of red meat pretty nauseating.
It’s a bit daft when the fix is usually just ventilation and if the problem is the smell “sticking”, cats and dogs make homes reek too. If it’s not managed, then it’s a basis for deposit removals.
If they own their own home, who tf cares? This just enables racist policing, totally indefensible.
Does that include smelly cheese or garlic breath?
So they won’t be using tomatoes?
great, no free market for anyone. Lets go into fascist territory
