Why is Puerto Rico red? It is not a country

It would be interesting to compare it with a map of net population growth that includes migration.

Big brains at r/Europe: knowing this, if only we eliminate immigration or almost, even culturally compatible one, we’d have a paradise.

It’s really not a major problem as people make out, a somewhat declining population won’t destroy a country. Though it might make sense to at least have strict border controls and visa/migration policy.

Raise your hand if you are not surprised!
I have lived in several EU countries and have visited or know a lot of people from all over Europe. It really doesn’t matter where you go: The reasons why people don’t have kids are the same across the continent:
1. Young people can’t afford to have children and in a lot of cases, even without having children, aren’t able to afford to buy a house or an apartment in their lifetime. And yes, this applies to highly educated people as well.
2. Massive cultural shifts. Young people don’t see having children as a priority. The main focus of a lot of young Europeans is self fulfillment. This is a consequence of 1. : If I can’t afford kids or a home then fuck it, I am going to enjoy life. Also: Dating culture has changed massively over the years: Commitment is seen as a burden, nobody wants to give up any of their freedoms for a relationship and relationships break apart the first time any problem or inconvenience occurs. Good luck trying to build a family on this foundation.
3. Hostility towards children and young families from society. The few people that have children often describe their status as a young family to be seen as trashy or selfish by society. People, especially older folks, have a zero tolerance towards children making noises anywhere near them and immediately lash out. Trying to get a new apartment with young children? Good luck with that buddy, landlords avoid you like the plague.
4. Bleak outlook on the future of humanity. Everything is going to shit and nobody seems to care about it. Climate change? Economic hardship? Democratic backsliding? Ecological collapse? Immigration? Wars? Nobody gives a shit, let’s just make tge line go up and raise pensions so that old people will keep the ruling parties in power at the next election. Children? Future generations? Bruh, not my problem, but good luck on fixing this mess and trying to survive in a toxic wasteland, we will be chilling in our graves by then.
Yeah, I am not shocked people quit having children.

Imagine a world where no country in the world is red in this map.

Maps like this have a wrong assumption, in my opinion.
Germany have about 84 mio population.
Yes, a lot of companies, health care, police, pension,… say “We need more people”. But more people requires more houses, more resources, more… and more health care, more police… Maybe for Germany the “optimum” is about 40 mio or something else?

Looks like they put Monaco in red but that’s wrong, there were 509 deaths and 721 births (one being my daughter) in 2024.

If governments really want people to have children, start as allways, ADVERTISING on tv, tik tok, YT etc, get peoples mind going and eventually they will start to realise that that is the purpose of life.
Also start instutiotions for young families how to manage economy properly, build houses and sell cheap only for families and parents with newly born kids etc. Make a program to guide/hold their hand along the way

I made a quick count the other day and due to divorces and remarriages and many of the people involved being only children my 9 year old stepson is due to inherit a minimum of 10 flats and houses. And that’s for now: his parents, stepparents and grandparents are still young enough to keep adding to it.
I wonder if that, added to immigration, is going to cause society in the future to become a caste system where a few natives own all the land and live off renting to immigrants. Just by his parents and stepparents moving to our retirement homes and leaving the city flats to him, without even counting anything from grandparents, he could keep one to live and rent the rest for 8000zl/month (1900€) as a very conservative estimate charging low prices related to the market.

The real real reason is that the population is inflated in most European countries. People used to have lots of kids because most of them would die, and it was tradition, but as medicine evolved, those kids didn’t die and so, the population grew.
Nowadays, people rarely have more than 3 kids, so having few kids than before, which will essentialy result in that data.

I doubt this is accurate… Canada, the US, Brazil Argentina, Australia, to name just the big “white” ones have a fertility rate way below the reproduction threshold and longevity hasn’t moved in the last couple of years. It’s not logical there would be more births than deaths.

Thailand is interesting, as it’s the classic example of a country that got old before it got rich. Right now, it relies on millions of migrant workers from Cambodia, Laos, and Myanmar.

This map is wrong, every industrialized country on earth is below replacement ratio. All their population increase is because of immigration, not births.
And it’s a good thing too, hopefully soon the entire planet is red. All our existential problems are caused by massive overpopulation, and in industrialized countries the problems are compunded massively.
It’s a shame our economic system is basically a ponzi-scheme where more young people are needed for taking care of the people after they have exhausted their economic production. But hey, better to pull off the band-aid now before we get a couple of billions more problems in the future crunch.
