Ciao a tutti!

I treni bulgari generalmente funzionano in tempo?

    Grazie in anticipo!

Travelled two times with train last week and even I was surprised that the train was on time.

    2. They could be 5 minutes early to 50 minutes late you never know it’s always a surprise

Most of the time they’re quite accurate, but when they’re not it’s a massive delay. Overall 45 min should be safe.

I’ve been using the BDZ trains since i can remember myself.4 years ago, i would tell you that they DONT go or arrive on time. nowadays though, I haven’t had a time where my train was late at all, its even the opposite sometimes. however anything is can happen. this is just my experience with the trains here. Hope i was useful.

Unless is a peek travel season or a cold winter, the trains are usually on time, with at most 15 min delay. On some train station it will be written if the trains are delayed in real time.

You should be fine with a 45 minute connection time. As others stated, anything can happen. I’ve been fairly lucky so far and have had minimal delays and mostly on time on multiple trips over the years.

Worst case scenario would be that you miss the 13:20 train from Stara Zagora. You’ll have the right to hop the next train, which looks like the 4660 at 16:10. There are plenty of places to chill out for a drink or a decent meal close to the train station.

Don’t drive yourself crazy trying to predict it… just go with the Bulgarian flow and enjoy your trip!

Edit: I’m certain that the Hostel would be understanding should you have been delayed and you call them from the road.

    7. Feels like nobody here has taken trains with connections in Bulgaria.

If you buy a ticket from A to C trough B and your A-B train is late, the train C-B will wait for you (unless there is an earlier travel option). Sounds weird, and honestly have not seen this is any other country, but it is how it works in BG. Although not always on time, BDZ won’t leave you in the middle of your journey.

You can make your ticket with the next train from Stara Zagora and, thus, you would have 4 hours waiting time, so that to minimize the probability to miss your train connection.

For these 4 hours it is better to focus on a short trip in Stara Zagora itself that possesses some of the best museums in the country and remarkable outdoor landmarks such the ancient amphitheater of Augusta Trayana as well as Roman and Thracian remains spread on a few places across the city.
