No
No. For that to happen, someone would actually need to attack russia and either occupy or at least force them to negotiation table where they are willing to hand over putin, lavrov, bunch of generals etc for tribunal.
Europeans aren’t going to do that. We in Europe love to talk big game but are actually unwilling to stand up for our own interests, nevermind taking decisive action which involves force
I want it to happen but I don’t think it will
No. Russia will never hand them over.
Good luck with that! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I think the biggest benefit of this is that everything is documented and that the criminals cannot enjoy a quiet retirement in Europe/partner countries in the future. Or even think about going on holiday.
People are writing serious articles about peace agreements, peacekeeping keeping forces, and trials, with the war still completely undecided. Sides cannot even agree to a temporary ceasefire.
An outright russian victory seems far away, but man are some journalists getting ahead of themselves
Did anyone actually read the article? Stop responding to the clickbait title.
If it didnt happen for bush and colin powell, wont happen for them no. Sorry but justice either works universally or not at all.
No. Otherwise, we would see the same for people involved in the Iraq war and the covid panic
What no they haven’t been defeated in the war yet only when defeated in a total manner will something ever close to that happens but even then we will probably have a Russian civil war to deal with
Do Tony Blair first
Snowball’s chance in hell, but I’d suppose if he gets deposed by his own countrymen, and whoever who ends up in charge wants to extend a, what’s the term, leaf. But I doubt he’d be alive long enough to get to Hague. Ex dictators have, short life expectancy.
Who will enforce it? Europeans can play pretend all they want, but they have no means to enforce any decision.
There is no credible accountability if it’s strumentalized to fit someone else’s definition of justice.
We should condemn all war criminals to the cell, no matter the country, but we know that won’t happen.
When that disparity is shown, such rules lose credibility.
Here in Europe there are leaders who are willingly ignoring another figure’s mandate for arrest.
At the start of this millennium the main superpower started an invasion without proof nor permission from any International entity, killing a million people and destabilizing regions for decades to come. Yet, no one was charged. And don’t get me started on last century with people like Kissinger.
These blatant and hypocritical actions destroy any International cooperation built upon trust and respect.
Forget it…
Whatever agreement comes, the first point will be its guaranteed impunity…
> Europe is expected to
Ugh
You and I can have any trial we want. Against anyone we want. For anything we want. Right now. TODAY.
It’s the enforcement part of any judgement that’s going to be tricky.
The next “Nuremberg” level trials will be held regarding climate change. Putin will die in power. Hopefully the next in line will be more open to change.
One would think he needs to be deposed first…
No, in fact we’re probably seeing the rise of a world-wide neo-nazi regime at this rate.
Far right nutjobs are everywhere.
Give it a few years
If the headline is a question, the answer is ‘no’.
Sadly, not a chance for that
Don’t they need to be captured first?
It better or wtf is it for
Only way such a thing would happen is if someone sent their troops at them and bagged them. They’re not going to come willingly, their country won’t give them willingly, and I doubt there is a single western leader that would be bold enough to do this.
What would poor old JD Vance have to say on it ?
And Tulsi Gabbard?
Someone please think of the Internet conspiracists in the Whitehouse who would need a whole new personality transplant.
Why would you hold a trial to convict Putin in absentia? It seems like the easiest way to demonstrate the impotence of the ICJ.
people that deserve jail dont see a lick of justice anymore, I thought this was made clear
Short answer; no
Long answer: >!nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…!<
Pssh, I wish. Not happening until Russia is on its knees.
This is why we support Ukraine as they try to hold free and fair elections and join the other republics of the western world.
Putin cannot abide free and fair elections. He hasn’t had one.
i read somewhere that if the title of the article is a question, the answer to will always be “No”. so , in this case – No.
Nuremberg was something Eisenhower really believed in.
It’s an interesting story and one that I’ve mostly forgotten.
You know Patton over ran ordruff and nobody believed in the concentration camps before that. Then the Allies discovered the mass of operation of Germany’s final solution.
Humanity couldn’t believe it.
Nuremberg was Eisenhower’s idea for preserving that horror so we won’t repeat it again.
Genghis Khan would have just slaughtered everybody.
I hope so
I wish
