Are they yearning to get their asses kicked again by the Finns?

All i know is that Finland has a big and very well trained Military and kinda just waits at this Point to rip Russia into pieces.
Edit: I kinda meant size and equipment wise, not that every Soldier just immediately wants to go to War. Sorry, i am a bit frustrated.

Finland is in NATO, so that wouldn’t work out well for Russia.

Sounds like a dog and pony show to me, they just hope to get attention and to ruffle some feathers as always, while the upper class Moscow kids go there to larp army and someone in the Russian army “builds and restores” the bases with a cardboard and then runs with the money.
I doubt anything is going to happen.

I don’t think they are insane enough to invade Finland. It’s swampy land protected by 900k reservists and an extremely advanced military.
It’s because militarily speaking they have to adapt a posture and have forces there just in case. Finland is right beside St Petersburg and some of the most crucial strategic areas of Russia. If they didn’t have any forces there it would present a huge gap in their defensive posture

“Military buildup”? Are they even close to pre-war, peace-time, levels? Bet this is just news spread to give impression that Russia has military left. They can’t start any new wars for many years.

I urge caution, Russia has been fighting the ai+drone war for 3 years now. Finland has not. This century will surely be the transition from conventional armies to fully autonomus machines fighting each other. As always, Russia might have a plan.

When I was a young boy, other side of the border and other side of the sea was big and dangerous Soviet Union, with much bigger hardware. Nobody cares, even notices of those. Same thing again. We don’t care what they do they own side of the border. This thing seems to be a problem and big news any other European nation than Finland itself. In here, nobody fears or care. 🇫🇮

2. Russia is exhausted. They got help even from North Korea

I’m a Finn, a reservist, and worried. And I’m very far from the only Finnish reservist or active duty soldier to worry. Quite a bit in fact.
Not for the immediate future, but for what could happen during the next decade or so, ESPECIALLY if Russians get to think they won in Ukraine and if Europe continues to dither with investments necessary to build a deterrent the Kremlin believes credible. (We should already discount the Americans: they are simply too unreliable for defence planning purposes until they undergo fundamental changes in their political system.)
Because that would greatly increase the risk of them making another miscalculation like the “three day special military operation”.
They might well lose the war that ensues. But that would be cold comfort to us battleground states. Finland and the Baltics could be ruined.
And if the Russians actually begin to lose against Europe, they might well escalate to nuclear use. Especially against countries without their own nuclear weapons.
Sure we would probably get, say, six months of strategic warning due to troop and equipment concentrations needed for the attack. But that is far too short a time to decisively increase weapons production. From the investment decision to substantial increase in production, at least 18 months – usually more – are needed.
And right now NATO doesn’t have enough modern weapons or capability to produce them fast enough to really fight a war against an opponent that really doesn’t care that much about casualties. That is if U.S. help is guaranteed. If not, the situation of Europe is much worse.
NATO could absolutely devastate the Russians in the first weeks or months of the war. But the stocks of modern weapons would be depleted in months at best, if not weeks. And if the Kremlin doesn’t fold before that happens, then what?
The war would devolve into a war of attrition where NATO might still be a little better, but not overwhelmingly so. And NATO simply doesn’t have the manpower reserves and especially not the willingness to expend them ruthlessly. (Which is a good thing.)
So if EU doesn’t really step on with the defence production investments, near future Russian rulers could think they might win this war against the West too – even if that resulted to democracies mobilizing like Hitler’s similar delusions of superiority and miscalculations resulted to.

The level of complacency shown in some comments here is truly bewildering.
You can rest assured that Finland IS worried. Being prepared doesn’t mean that you want a conflict to happen, especially not a conflict fought on your own soil.
And it’s not just at the Finnish border where Russia is “expanding” its military buildup. It’s one of the main reasons why a number of Western intelligence agencies expect a conflict with NATO in the coming years, if only to test NATO’s resolve and the validity of Article 5.
For Europe, this means that we have to get ready for all eventualities and increase our military capabilities massively – ideally, as a deterrence, but in the worst case, to defend NATO’s eastern flank against any kind of aggression effectively, even without the US if we must.
Finland can – and should – count on us all. But there is absolutely no room for complacency, on the contrary.
